After a roller-coaster year, the Australian made the 53-man roster for the San Francisco 49ers 2015 season.

The 27-year-old boy from Minto shocked the entire country when he announced he was leaving rugby league to try to earn a contract in the ruthlessly competitive National Football League.

The odds were thoroughly stacked against him but piece by piece, Hayne made his childhood dream a reality. He got faster, stronger and impressed at pro-testing day before winning a rookie contract with the 49ers.

When does the NFL season start?

The NFL season kicks off Friday 11th September at 10:30am (AEST) with the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the reigning champions, the New England Patriots.

When is the first San Francisco 49ers game?

The 49ers open their season against the Minnesota Vikings who finished the 2014 season with a 7-9 record. The ‘Monday Night Football’ clash will played on Tuesday 15th September at 12:30pm (AEST) at San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium.

How to watch on TV

Free-to-air:Channel 7 will broadcast all of the 49ers Sunday games live on 7mate which is good news for Hayne fans as all their games are played on Sunday except for rounds one and seven.

ESPN:ESPN Australia on Foxtel will be airing the Round 1 game against the Vikings and also the Round 7 match at home against the Seattle Seahawks.
