This is so typical of this country… Majority of people are of a different heritage other than australian, yet the TV coverage of major sporting events is diabolical….A world cup being held in a neighbouring country where time difference is not an issue and still we miss out on watching it….

The tv coverage of this years World Cup has been diabolical. Have had family from uk ringing me cheering on Ireland after they had won against Australia and we hadn’t even been able to watch it yet, as ch 9 had it delayed. Then spent Sunday hunting through tv guides to find when the England v Georgia game was on, but it wasn’t even shown. It was near impossible to find out the score had to ring England for an update on the game. VERY POOR show ch 9!!

Australia kicked off vs USA at 6.30pm – why is covereage on after the rugby league final (3 hours later)?….Surely a world cup should be shown first and LIVE. Why are there so many free to air channels that are showing rubbish but we must only watch sport on channel 9???

It is a joke what thay call coverage of a world cup on free to air tv , most of the country does not have fox tell . There are many diffrent nationalities in australia . And only a hand full of games hours later are shown. Makes me want to get foxtell and stomach the cost so much of the adverts i saw 6 months ago on keeping sport on free to air there is none.

I am very disappointed with how channel nine have handled the rugby world cup coverage. In past world cups, Channel 7 showed a commitment to rugby by televising, at the least the major matches. Matches that Australia were involved in were televised live. It is unbelieveable that Australian matches are not televised live.
I recommend that channel nine do not be given the rights again. They are committed to Rugby League and their commentators have made it clear, in the past, that they see rugby union as a competitor code. Of course they are going to give preference to NRL finals. This has been a big joke. Give the rights back to Channel 7 and let’s hear Gordon Bray again.

i wrote this email to the IRB last weekend, its truly inexcusable, the whole situation.
I cannot express to you how upsetting it is to me, that I cannot watch the Aus vs Ireland game live on Channel nine. I understand channel nine’s perspective, because playing the game after the NRL, will result in higher ratings. But, what is your excuse? You sold the rights to a channel that you knew would place union second to league? And union will always be second, because super 15 does not get any coverage on FTV. Not being able to watch super 15 is bad enough, but I never thought the same would occur with the world cup. Do you not understand the impact this could have on the growth of the sport in Aus? The RWC is a one in four year opportunity to gain market share, but instead, you are happy to play second fiddle to the NRL. The next generation of rugby players don’t even know the RWC has started, they are running around with Broncos jerseys on. Obviously, you have no consideration for the fans, if you are willing to make us wait 3 hours for a game that will be packed with commercials.
What kind of contract did you fill out with channel nine? I cannot understand your approach, all I understand is that it’s the fans, and the game, that are being neglected, and it is not good enough.

I cant believe the poor standard of refereeing, The Samoa v S.A. game prime example of an incompetent being given the whistle. He obviously couldn’t control his own bias and emotion let alone control a game IRB should be ashamed of themselves for such a poor ref panel

It is more than a joke it a crying shame. I concur with all of the above. Channel 9 is like a deer with no eyes (no idea) when it comes to Rugby Union. How they ever got the rights is beyond me. Important Australian Games delayed for hours so it becomes a battle not to hear the results. Ken Sutcliffe who looks like he’s half blind argueing with those on the panel who know Rugby and making inane missimformed comments. Compare it to SBS’s complete coverage of the World Cup Football and they don’t have the money channel 9 does. When they do show a game they intersperse it with tedious repetitive ads to the extent that the game goes for twice as long, I lose interest and most of the time when they return to the game we miss sections of it. Here is what I have resorted to do and I reccomend it. Go down to the local pub, Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane in my case and the manager kindly puts the game live on the big screen. I don’t have Foxtel
