As an avid fan of the Wallabies, mixed with the generally optimistic nature Australians possess, it is really hard for me to ever truly write off the Wallabies in any Test as I always believe there is chance of victory. It’s the Australian way.

Yes, I’m admitting I’m angry and upset as we just lost the Bledisloe Cup that we were chance of winning. So maybe I’m venting! But while watching the first 20 minutes it seemed to me the All Blacks wanted it more.

From a position of inferior standing, ‘confidence’ always looks ‘cocky’. Which is why the Dominion Post headline, “All Blacks keen to quell cocky Australians” does our national side no favours.

While this may be an unpopular view on a largely Australian sports website, no matter where I look across the park, I see the Crusaders on top of the Reds.

I read today that, according to a poll taken among New Zealand children of various ages, the All Blacks won’t win the 2011 World Cup. A surprising amount of kids thought that the All Blacks would make the final and then blow it again.

That headline might sound a little weird seeing that the Wallabies and the All Blacks already play running rugby. But the Boks, still being coached by the traditionalist Peter de Villiers, are said to be planning their old tried and true tactics for the coming Tri-Nations in July and August.

Tall, bespectacled and analytical, John Buchanan, 58, is facing the strongest challenge of his roller-coaster career. He has been appointed the Director of New Zealand Cricket (NZC). From 1999 to 2007 he had coached the Australian cricket team with distinction. Under him as the coach, Australia lifted World Cups in 2003 and 2007.

Okay, halfbacks have always been on the diminutive side, because it was thought a nine had to be nippy around the scrum. But Joost Vanderwesthuizen proved that you could have some size and still be good – in his case, devastating – and nobody in New Zealand complained about Kelleher being chunky.

The American historian, Howard Zinn, said something I think apropos to the subject of the All Blacks and the RWC. Zinn said, “I can understand pessimism, but I don’t believe in it. We don’t need certainty, only possibility.” Pessimism and possibility.

The phrase “class is permanent and form is temporary” has given the lovers of All Blacks rugby much to think about over the pass few weeks. It suffices to say that none of the incumbent All Blacks have been in sparkling form thus far in the Super Rugby competition.

For a long time the first semi-final between Sri Lanka and New Zealand looked like a replay of Sri Lanka’s quarter final match with England. Substitute in the stubborn Black Caps of New Zealand in place of an England team almost relieved to be going home, and the crowd would have been wondering if it [...]

Well, it looks like the International Cricket Council is finally getting somewhere. In less than a week, the organisation has not only hinted that there could be a qualification window open to the Associate nations for the 2015 edition of the World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, but it’s also hinted that it could get rid [...]

Sixteen days into this World Cup, and we know as little as we did when the squads were first announced. Despite the merry-go-round of matches, the prospect of a winner is no clearer, nor are most of the pre-tournament questions. Australia’s all-pace battery dominated against the questionable batting line-ups of New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
