Queensland has secured the Australian under-19 cricket championship with two comfortable victories in the final T20 section of the titles played in Adelaide.

The Bananabenders had a 53-run victory over the NT in the first of the day’s matches to win the title, and then had a freewheeling win over New South Wales in its second match to finish seven points ahead of Western Australia with 33 points.

Nick Stevens’ 63 piloted the Maroons to 7/161 against the NT, who then made 9/108 in reply.

Mark Steketee continued his excellent tournament, taking 3/17.

The second game saw Queensland losing just one wicket in pursuit of the Bluebaggers’ 94 runs.

Opener James Peirson cracked an unbeaten 56, while Sam Gardner took 4/7 for Queensland.

Host state South Australia’s bright start to the tournament is all but a memory after it finished sixth on the ladder, only a win in the last match over Tasmania prevented it from a dismal seventh placing.

In SA’s first match of the day, it was eclipsed by the ACT

Travis Head was again the star of the show in the final match against Tasmania, knocking up 69 from 39 balls as SA hit 3/175.

In a good run chase, Tassie finished 8/168 with Nathan Philip hitting a half century.

Other results in the final round saw Victoria (6/82) defeating ACT, which hit 81, while Cameron Bancroft (48) was the only WA player to reach double figures as it passed the NT’s 86 with one wicket remaining.

Points: Qld 33; WA 26; Victoria 21; NSW 21; ACT 15; SA 12; Tas 10; NT 0
