The Roar scores exclusive deal with MySpace Australia
The Roar secures deal with MySpace to provide user-generated sports content
Sydney, January 29, 2007 – The Roar (www.theroar.com.au), Australia’s leading user-generated content sports website, today announced a partnership with Australia’s number one social networking site, MySpace.com. The deal makes The Roar the official and sole provider of sports related content for MySpace’s hugely popular Aussie Hub [www.myspace.com/aussiehub].
The Roar launched in September 2007 and has reached this deal with News Corp owned MySpace in less than six months.
The Roar’s brand of sports reporting by the fans for the fans has proven a hit with the sports obsessed Australian public, who love to debate the latest issues and incidents.
“The Roar is excited about the potential for this alliance and we look forward to our unique content reaching over three million unique Australian MySpace users, “said Zac Zavos, CEO of Conversant Media, creator of The Roar.
“It demonstrates the level of interest in real sports opinion written by everyday fans. Far more powerful for today’s generation C – the content creators – than a dry news article,” said Zavos.
”The evolution of social networks is kick-starting a broad global shift for how people, content, and culture collide on the Web, this exciting agreement with The Roar ensures that our millions of MySpace users can stay up to date with sports news from across the country from their peers online; put simply - it’s a natural synergy,” said Rebekah Horne, Vice President, Fox Interactive Media & MySpace, Australia & New Zealand.
With a hybrid model of content generation, The Roar blends sports news feeds and expert commentary with content written by the supporters. Both experts’ and crowd-written stories have equal weighting and work together to ensure that sports opinion really counts.
