Stand and deliver

Has there ever been a cleaner hitter of the ball than Adam Gilchrist? His silky strokeplay has been so exciting to watch that when his magnificent career finally comes to end, cricket won’t quite seem the same again. It’s such a pleasure to look back at some of the wonderful shots he played on his way to the second fastest test century of all time.

Hmmmnnn .... Gary Gilmour once broke a fence paling at the SCG with a shot over long on that hit the fence on the full. Doug Walters in his younger days hit a shot over square leg clear out of the ground, ov er the Members Stand into Moore Park. Not bad examples either, but I agree that for consistency of effort Gilly is right up there.

I doubt there has been a cleaner hitter. Maybe others with more brute power (eg V. Richards), or more finesse (M. Waugh). But for clean hitting ability, Gilly is the man. It is something about the way he can use his forearms and wrists better than any other, I think.
