Nathan Burns: A star on the rise

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

What better way to celebrate the new Roar site than with a celebration of a young Aussie footballer.

Did you see what Adelaide United’s Nathan Burns did on Saturday night at Aussie Stadium?
He block tackled Sydney FC hardman Terry McFlynn, skipped around Ruben Zadkovich and Mark Rudan.

With the defence scrambling he was all class. He played the ball into the space behind the defence and Richie Alagich couldn’t miss.

The young man from Bathhurst NSW has started the new season on fire. A stunning goal last against Queensland and more shenanigans this week in Sydney.

Pity the crowd was so low to watch one of Australia’s brightest hopes. He’ll be gone to Europe soon enough. And watch the crowds flock to see him when he returns to play for the Socceroos much as they do for a Tim Cahill or Harry Kewell.

Enjoy him while we can I say. Is there a better young Aussie in the A-League?

Wasn't the crowd about 14k? It's a bit disappointing for Sydney after attracting 18k the week before in driving rain. Still, it's more up there with other clubs and better than lots of NRL clubs too. The fact that an Aussie club is disappointed with 14k is a good thing. Nathan Burns and the other stars on show deserve better though. Can't wait to see him playing for Australia at WC2010!!!
