Ben Rogers hits out at Souths' booze ban

By News / Wire

South Sydney five-eighth Ben Rogers has lashed out at his dumping from first grade for drinking alcohol.

Rogers was one of four Souths players dropped by coach Jason Taylor for breaking a team decree to register a zero breath-alcohol limit at their recovery session on Saturday.

The playmaker today told NewsLtd papers he was “angry, disappointed and unimpressed” with the axing and felt he had done nothing wrong.

“What, are we in the army?,” Rogers said.

“If I’d gotten into trouble, got kicked out of a pub or started a fight, then I’d put my hand up and say I was in the wrong.

“That would be fair enough. But I wasn’t drunk.

“I’m not real impressed and Souths know I’m not happy.”

Rogers, Eddie Paea, Jaiman Lowe and Fetuli Talanoa were dropped for Saturday night’s NRL match against North Queensland while David Kidwell has been stripped of the club’s co-captaincy.

The struggling Rabbitohs are still winless after seven competition rounds.

Unfortunately for rogers this is now a more professional era where corporate dollars drive all aspects of players lives, so i suppose you have gotta accept the consequences of that...I reckon it is bloody ridiculous myself, it isn't like he did anything criminal, and it was a recovery training session, not a full blown training run, overkill from Souths, and especially Taylor who is clutching at straws to deflect criticism for the crap job he is doing...
