Upcoming international rugby matches

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

It’s interesting to note that there are two upcoming Barbarians matches. If they will be on Setanta, it’s worth the $15 for the month. I’m assuming there will be no Aussies downunder who will be representing as its the start of the international calender.

Imagine if we see Chris Latham playing in the Barbarians when they play Australia at Wembley Stadium (I think I read it will also be the first ever rugby match there?)

Also, on June 22 in Sydney, rugby fans should get along to the SFS and support Australia A playing Tonga. I was there last year and they gave them a bit of a thumping, though only in the second half. At halftime the score was still close.

Does anyone know anything about the Aussie team going to the Junior World Championships in Wales this month? They look to be in a tough pool with England, Fiji and Canada.

i wish i could go Mart. wonder how much a round trip to the uk is... *ponders* Australia's stadiums in comparison arn't that much are they (when u look at loftus or the cape town stadium where the seats are near vertical) - although the new stadium for the gold coast titans (i think) sounds impressive. friggin oval stadiums... no point!

Chris - small pedant point...there have been a few rugby internationals at Wembley, mainly Welsh ones in the 6N (I attended 2 against France and England), whilst the Arns Park was being demolished and the Millenium being built. However you are almost certainly correct that this will be the first at the new (Multiplex !) Wembley ...

Westy, Your point is well said. I am a single dad in Marrickville. I have no Foxtell. I am lucky enought to have a brother who has, and I usually get the game taped so I can watch it on Sunday night after my kids are in bed. Free to air and rugby dont seem to go together. I don't think the average ARU director is short of a few quid and doesn't see the problem of paying for rugby. I seem to be watching more and more Rugby League these days, not through choice, but because it's there.

dave, harrison also played inthe baa baa's last year when they took on world cup champs South Africa. I also remember hearing rocky elsom (as he was also in that barbarians team) chat on tah talk about how in a warm up fun match at training, robinson tried to go outside him down the touch line and harrison tackled him wally-lewis style into touch and said something along the lines (jokingly) "don't ever try to take me on the outside jason" - classic

I know for a fatc that former Wallaby second rower Justin Harrison has been invited to play for the Baa Baas. As is the tradition he will be wearing the socks of his first rugby union club - Southern Cross University's Gold Rats!

I am comfortably of but I have clients out Blacktown way that are still waiting to get their roofs fixed for over 6 months. Never took that long in the East. They are relatively stoic people and perhaps not as articulate. My point is that they cannot afford Pay t.v. let alone an extra $15 /month. Rising fuel costs out west will hit hard. They are still better of than many in this world. My point is that the only access to rugby they get is the Saturday substandard club stuff they play on ABC. This area has a high youth demographic who get no or little exposure to quality rugby on a consistent basis. Can the ARU in selling its rights at least attempt to negotiate delayed broadcast of Super14 highlights package on SBS , or any free to air station. They do watch the free to air Wallabies games and and then there is no where to go. Please do not say i am being to hard on the club rugby . I watch but it falls far short of the league club free to air version different game or not.

I'm interested, too, in seeing if the Leicester - Classic All Blacks match, sometime in June I believe, is on any of the Pay TV channels.

Chris You might be interested to know that the Baa-Baas have invited the following to play against an England XV @ Twickenham. Schalk Burger, Fourie du Preez, Gareth Thomas, Stephen Larkham, Chris Latham, Felipe Contepomi, Ollie le Roux, Sebastien Chabal, Regan King. amongst others It will be the Baa=Baas 750th game since it formation in 1890. As for the junior RWC in Wales it will be interesting to see England play. They have recently won the 6N's grand slam in their age group and the game against OZ in particular will be a real test of their progress.
