South Africa’s pace bowlers will be itching to have a crack at the Western Australia Second XI batsmen when play resumes on Saturday in the two-day practice match at the WACA.

South Africa made 8-320 on Friday from their 90 overs, including 129 retired from AB De Villiers.

Half-centuries came from opener Neil McKenzie (69) and Test No.3 Hashim Amla (59 not out), who also made an unbeaten 105 in Thursday’s one-day game against Western Australia.

De Villiers says South Africa’s fearsome pace attack led by Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel are pumped up after not having bowled in Thursday’s loss to the Warriors.

Steyn missed the game with a minor hamstring strain and Morkel sprained his ankle with his first delivery attempt but is set to bowl on Saturday.

“Some of the guys haven’t bowled on this trip so I’m sure they are pretty hungry to get out there tomorrow,” De Villiers said.

The World No.2-ranked Proteas started their Australian campaign with a loss on Thursday as the Warriors made 4-215 from 50 overs in reply to South Africa’s 2-185.

Saturday’s second day of play starts at 10.30am local time (1230 AEDT).
