Fury bottle their frustration after third straight loss

North Queensland Fury coach Ian Ferguson refused to question the performance of match officials after his winless A-League newcomers suffered a somewhat unlucky 1-0 loss to Melbourne Victory.

The Victory showed their ability to grind out a scrappy result, on the back of a star performance from striker Archie Thompson who scored the match winner, despite the Fury looking the better side for most of the contest at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

Referee Peter Green missed an apparent Melbourne hand ball inside their box midway through the second half which could have given the Fury a sniff of getting back into the match.

“These are the decisions that the referee makes at the end of the day. It is a tough job for them and sometimes they are given and sometimes they are not given,” said Ferguson.

“We can’t sit here and whinge about it. We have got to get on with it.”

Ferguson was proud of his side’s performance but believed it was time for his side to claim their maiden A-League victory as frustration mounts after three straight defeats.

“The most pleasing thing for me is I can work with the nucleus of this team and hopefully we can try and get that cohesion and togetherness and get the balance right.

“It was good in that sense but again we have lost a goal which has again cost another three points.

“But I hate sitting here saying there were a lot of positives and again we have lost another game. ”

Fury striker Daniel McBreen was devastated about the result but believed his side wasn’t too far away from notching their first win after an encouraging performance.

“To be honest, I’m gutted, I thought the boys worked well as a unit it was a good team performance tonight.

The were premiers last year and we are holding our own against them and they just give us a sucker punch and that’s probably why they were premiers last year.”
