Sydney Olympic played in the old National Soccer League (NSL), along with the other Australian and ethnic clubs, such as South Melbourne Hellas, Sydney Croatia and Marconi.

Frank Lowy, who instigated the A-League, was also founder of the old NSL and owner of Sydney Hakoah (Jewish supported club). Although Hakoah did extremely well, winning several championships, it failed to attract supporters, averaging several hundred a game, while clubs like Olympic were getting thousands.

Eventually the club went bankrupt and left the NSL, which outraged Frank Lowy.

In 2004, the NSL dissolved and Frank Lowy, again, created Sydney FC and a brand new football league in Australia, removing all the ethnic clubs and reducing them into the State League.

In Europe, they have a movement called ‘Against Modern Football’. As an Olympic supporter, and with our club being relegated to a lower league to make way for a brand new Sydney FC franchise, this is ‘Modern Football’ at it’s best.

True passionate football supporters are looked down upon, and new corporate minded people make way.

The scene in Europe involves supporters suppression (something we are not really affected by here in Australia), and Stadiums being all-seaters and having no terrace (another thing we do not suffer from).

However, what we do suffer from is being replaced by a franchise!
