Brazil overtake Spain as No.1 in FIFA rankings

By News / Wire

Brazil have reclaimed top spot from Spain in the latest FIFA rankings, ending the five-month reign of the European champions.

It is the seventh time since the inception of the rankings in 1993 that Brazil have held top spot and takes their total time at the top to 143 months.

The Socceroos, who have not played in the past month, slipped one spot to equal 20th, alongside Nigeria.

World Cup semi-finalists Portugal went up a spot to sit third, swapping places with the Netherlands.

Argentina rose two places to move to seventh place, while France dropped two spots to fall to 10th in the most notable changes in the top 10.

Only five matches counted toward April rankings, meaning most of the changes were due to the devaluation of past results.
