Let's face it: Hayne is all mouth, no game

At a time when the NRL is facing one of the biggest scandals to creep its way into the game, the last thing David Gallop would need is players threatening to quit league.

Yet, on the eve of the Anzac Test Match, it seemed that in the mind of Jarryd Hayne, this was the perfect thing to do.

Get out and claim that he isn’t looked after enough in the game, and that if things don’t improve, he will soon quit rugby league and take his talents elsewhere, despite being signed to the Eels for another four years.

Announcing that the NRL are doing little to protect their players is one thing, but then having a whine about the fact he only receives $6,000 for playing the Test match, and only gets four free tickets for his family, makes him seem arrogant and conceited.

Maybe fame is once again going to his head. It has happened before, after all.

If Hayne knew anything, he would realise that four free tickets to each player in both the Australian and New Zealand teams, makes a total of 136 tickets that the NRL are not receiving any money for.

And he wonders why he doesn’t get more money.

However, despite Hayne being the Dally M Player of the Year and an obvious star in the Parramatta and NSW Blues sides in 2009, I personally doubt that Gallop would be overly worried if Hayne left the game.

There is no denying his come-and-go brilliance, but Hayne’s status in the game is not one for him to be bragging about.

After his performance in the Test match as well, it seems his words are not living up to his game.

Hayne made a total of four dropped balls and one forward pass off high kicks in the 6th, 11th, 18th, 45th, and 66th minutes – some almost leading to Kiwi tries.

Other than that, Hayne’s contribution to the game was minimal and unnoticed.

Again, everyone knows what Hayne can do and the damage he can cause on a field, and sure he was not playing in his preferred position. But before he comes out to the media with a mouthful of arrogant statements, maybe he should make sure his game is living up to his self-promoted reputation.

After all, he seems to be the only one confident that his departure would leave a gaping hole in league.
