Don't worry, Wallabies not far off the pace

By rugbyguy / Roar Pro

Eight losses in row may be a hard pill to swallow, but the Wallabies’ poor record against the All Blacks is not a statistic worth worrying about or celebrating.

Has everyone forgotten the score at the weekend was 49-28, not 49-0?

The All Blacks were dominant for most of the game, but not all of it. There were brief periods when the Wallabies were dominant and a lot of the game was a tough competition.

The Wallabies demonstrated they have the potential to compete against the All Blacks.

As this young Wallaby side continues to develop, the ability to put a solid 80 minute performance together will come. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that this Wallaby team is yet to ripen. Facing a rampant All Blacks side at the weekend was probably a step above anything most of the Wallabies have experienced.

It was among the highest paced games I have seen.

The All Blacks were on good form and played well, and the Wallabies were still within reach of winning with about ten minutes to go. Ok, they never looked like winning. But the All Blacks held back on several substitutions until the game was almost over.

Had the game not been in the balance, the likes of Cruden would have seen a bit more game time. It was a tough game.

With these new rules, we will see more tries and high scores, so we shouldn’t get too excited by 49 points in good conditions between two quality running teams.

The Wallabies have a long way to go before they reach their best, but we have seen they have the potential to compete at the highest level.

good point SA is old. Mattfeild is old he doesn't even participate in heavy training sessions anymore because he's too old and his body cant handle it, Sa hav a good lineout but that means nothing now that the AB's have realised they can simply keep the ball in play an dnot give SA any lineout throws. like i said OZ is the team to watch out for, but as i looks lik Cooper will switch codes and play for the Eels they might not be that dangerous after all, Giteu and Cooper togethr is a deadly combo but Giteu alone can be shut down

I am huge AB's fan and a Kiwi , but i can admit when i see another side has potential, i think you nedd to learn how to watch a game objectively. As for Henrys substituions we saw thorne and woodcock come off at a predictable point in the game yes but Carter no. we have solid experianced replacements at prop and lock, these substitutions are made for tactical reasons to bring fresh legs on, ever heard the term impact player?? . Had the AB's been a mile ahead or the result beyond doubt Carter and Mils would have been off with 20min to go and the young boys would have gotten a decent taste of Bledisloe intensity instead of the token appearance they did get. And i said ABOUT ten to go, at which point oz was hot on attack and unlucky not to score which would have put them within 7 points of the lead, short memories like yours seem to forget how many times oz has gone berserk in the last few minutes when they have a win in sight, as it happened the AB's kicked a penalty and put the game beyond doubt which meant OZ more or less gave up. Also dont forget OZ was missing their key playmaker Quade Cooper and played a man down most of the match. In a years time OZ will be battlehardened and a lot better than they are now. the AB's are on top of their game right now but how much can they improve ? OZ is cleary the second best team in the world already and will be the biggest threat to the All Blacks when it comes to world cup time. By all rights the Ab's should win but the same is said every 4 years and it hasn't worked out that well for us

WHAT GAME WERE YOU WATCHING MATE!! I am a huge Ab's fan but to think we have the world cup in the bag is the exact same arrogant one-eyed thinking that has cost us nearly every world cup since '87 with the exception of 95 when we were poisoned,

With (a) the bodies we can put on the paddock and (b) their collective low state of preparedness and (c) RSA imploding and the AB's exploding I think what has happened this season so far is pretty fair. Keep it in mind that Ozlanders have a history of dropping the Goliaths right back into their loudmouth holes. I do envy your pessimism though, it must make those victories all the sweeter. For ridiculous optimists like me they are as enjoyable but I can guarantee you I will be watching the game live, win or lose. The low point for me was England, 2nd test, boy did that make me doubt everything. Then we had a month break and I knew Dingo would get them as ready as their skills allowed. So far it is going on schedule with I believe some success to come.

If that were true how come it has been 8 loses now and still now building? What do you determine to be a failure?

This is like the second stage of grief where you deny everything that actually happened in the game. The score with 10 minutes to go was 44-28. Henry substituted Thorn and Woodcock in the 60th minute and started clearing the bench from the 70th minute. Australia scored two well deserved tries in the second half but the All Blacks answered back both times so I don't see how Australia had any momentum in the second forty.
