Boomers bounce back with dominant display

By John Davidson / Roar Guru

Australia has recovered from its shattering loss to Argentina at the World Basketball Championships with a massive 78-43 victory over Germany. The Boomers showed tremendous spirit to bounce back with a great performance that never looked like ending in anything but a resounding win.

Australia was in control from the outset, ending the first quarter 19-7 ahead, and never looked like letting its lead go. At half time, they led 38-20, and at three quarter time the lead was 62-31.

This was a great team performance from the Boomers built on fantastic defence. Australia controlled the boards and was excellent from the three-point line, shooting at 46% percent accuracy.

Highlights for the Aussies were again Patrick Mills, who goes from strength to strength and picked up 16 points, and efforts from the likes of Matt Nielsen and David Anderson. Alex Maric also played himself into form, starting the game slowly but ending with 15 points.

Next up the Boomers play Serbia (late Wednesday night), who have managed one win from their first two games.

I don't think we need to describe the loss to Argentina as shattering J. I think it was actually encouraging,a good performance and the boys took some confidence from it. They hence came out really well against Germany. I thought Patty played really under control, and didn't try to take over. Just what I wanted to see from him. This Serbia game is big though. If we want to do anything in this tournament we need to win it. Should be tough inside with Maric v Krstic. Looking forward to a great game now I've figured I can watch it online at ESPN here in the US.

Jawai will be playing for reigning Serbian champs Partizan Belgrade next season. He will be playing in the Euro-League. 2nd best club comp after the NBA.

Jawai's partner is having a baby, and I think that was the reason and the attempt to shore up an NBA contract is why he's missed the world championships.

With no Nowitzki Germany were always goig to struggle at this tournament. Nice turnaround for the aussies though. Lets see how they do against Serbia before we get too cocky though.
