Houdini escape for the Wallabies

What a game! What a finale! Once again, the Wallabies nearly lost a game that appeared won. But, this time, luck was on their side despite the stupidity of Saia Fainga’a (have we finally seen the last of him under the Wallaby jersey? I hope so).

But at times, it was comical. How can we lose the game? Let’s try the falcon, and the over the head pass to the dead-goal line…

And what a difference a week makes. Robbie Deans has finally used his bench to full benefit. Burgess created havoc whenever he had the ball, Barnes gave that sublime ball to Mitchell, Mumm, Slipper, Brown and Anthony Fainga’a all contributed. The only exception was Saia Fainga’a.

But credit should also be given to a gallant South African side that was flawless for about 30 minutes in the second half. What a performance by Victor Matfield (that try created for Fourie), Morne Steyn (9 out of 9).

All in, a great game.

NB: Could we suggest the IRB to do away with the second half? The Wallabies would then have a real chance to be world champions and it will save time.
