SARU won't speculate on White as coach

By AP / Wire

The South African Rugby Union says it won’t speculate on reports that former coach Jake White has approached its president Oregan Hoskins about leading the Springboks to the World Cup instead of current coach Peter de Villiers.

SARU communications manager Andy Colquhoun says “there could be half a dozen coaches wanting to take over from Peter, that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen” and “we are not going to speculate.”

White was quoted by South African newspaper The Times as saying he was ready to “coach the Springboks to the World Cup in 2011.”

White says Hoskins “keeps telling me he has to run the idea past the executive council.”

Under De Villiers, the defending champions have lost five out of six games in the Tri-Nations.

EJ certainly put some style into the backs. You could see a few classic wallaby moves in some of their backline play. I read in the Guardian that White has offered to come back to coach the Boks and has already got EJ's offer to assist him again. The Wallabies should hire EJ as a new attack coach.

To be fair Van der Westhuyzen, Willemse, Barry, Smit, Botha, Matfield, Rossouw, Smith, Burger and Van Niekerk were all selected by Straeuli too. White tightened the Boks up, and it was a good move to bring back Montgomery and Du Randt, but basically he did a limited job: rush defence, good lineout and kicking. I think SA need a better coach to take them to a higher level. White had his successes, but he also had terrible periods, which should't be forgotten.

One win from six matches, the most tries conceded (22) in the history of the competition and the wooden spoon. Simply not good enough, he is not coaching that team.

Thing is Jake built a team from scratch PDV got a champion team and regressed. Jake had polititians on his back, PDV is token enough not to have that problem. Jake built experienced players, PDV is running them into the ground. Jake forced discipline PDV 3 suspensions and a ton of yellow cards. Dont be fooled by statements like Seiran's. PDV is useless and a clown, time to move on. SA deserves better.

And I seem to remember White also being dragged in front of SARU to explain a poor boks performance before he turned the team around and went on to win the WC. I hope PDV gets to stay on. He is the funniest clown rugby has ever had.
