A novel approach to Australian team selection

After the Boxing day Test debacle I noticed a strange thing in the commentary, especially that coming from Cricket Australia, the team and those close to the team. In short it was along the lines of Ponting and Clarke are too valuable to the team to be dropped.

So it appears the powers that be are happy to carry a number of failed batsmen because of their “X-Factor”.

Obviously this is a tactic that has been in place for sometime so the team needs to be formed around this central plank.

To counter this we need to change the selection process for the lower order.

I propose that for any bowler or wicket keeper to be considered for selection they MUST have a first class batting average of over 50.

This simple step will overcome the fact that the top order has shown that it does not have the bottle to do their job, so it naturally falls to the lower order to make up the shortfall.

Unfortunately, the current bowling line up will all be back in the Sheffield Shield trying to up their batting average.
