Springboks Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson have been cleared to return to rugby after a South African Rugby Union (SARU) judicial committee ruled that they were not at fault for their positive drug test last year.
The committee said in a ruling released on Friday that a reprimand was the “appropriate sanction” for hooker Ralepelle and winger Basson after they tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine following South Africa’s victory over Ireland in November.
The players were provisionally suspended from all rugby activities as a result and had to return home from the tour.
The committee, comprising two lawyers and a doctor, ruled it was “comfortably satisfied” that the players had no intention of enhancing their performance through the use of a prohibited substance.
The committee was appointed by the South African Rugby Union and heard the cases in Cape Town on Tuesday.
The South Africa team said a new sports drink or flu medication taken by both players could have been responsible for the positive tests.

On the subject of drugs there should always an independent body doing tests ,having it in house is a little convenient for my liking. And that go's for any country or any one that cheats.

So Andre if two Australian players were found to unknowingly use a banned substance and were cleared by the ARU, you would say Australia is a corrupt country or am I missing your logic?

No need to be cynical, these guys were totally innocent. Warne's case was dealt with internally,as was Ben Tune's case. This stimulant was in any case not performance enhancing. Why don't you just read the full report - it has all the details.Justice prevailed for once.

How can you not get an independent ruling from the IRB that without any doubt or cause for concern clear or not the drug taking. With all respect and until there is an independent IRB investigation the swept under the table connotations (with good cause will always taint Saru) only an independent investigation will ever put my mind to rest.
