Vixens not good enough

By OneHD / Roar Rookie

Losing a game the way that we did against the Queensland Firebirds is simply not good enough. Every Vixen needs to sit and reflect on their own performance and also that of the team.

Yes, Firebirds deserve the credit. They are having a brilliant season and again produced a classy performance, but they certainly did not face the talented Vixens team that they should have.

Firebirds deserve the top spot. They are relentless, confident and classy in attack and defence. Are they beatable? Yes.

For us… There are no excuses for that sort of performance. It was not the standard of netball that we expect from ourselves and not what you deserve as onlookers. That is not a performance that any of us are proud of.

We can complain that we have lost Sharelle McMahon; in fact we can find many things to complain about… but where will it get us? Nowhere.

We were prepared. We were focused. We had the burning desire to win. Although, we let fear take over and did not let our presence do the convincing. We have only ourselves to blame.

So what now? Fortunately we don’t have a lot of time to dwell on the loss, with our next game on Sunday against West Coast Fever. This gives us the chance to re-stamp our authority and more so the opportunity to believe in ourselves again. A lot can be said about talent we have in this team, even though talent alone won’t win you games, it’s there and what we do with it is completely our choice.

Expectation is a funny thing. It’s pressure. At times we forget that we do not step over that white line to prove anything to anyone other than ourselves. We are the Melbourne Vixens. We have the talent. We have the game plan. We have the heart. The missing link? Executing the power within us.

Sports do not build character. They reveal it. They don’t call it a leap of fear… they call it a leap of faith.

Let’s do this.

Yes Sue, looks like that's gonna be the Vixens' "clash" uniform when playing away if there's any chance of visual confusion with the uniforms of the opposition team, not that it would be needed very often. The Fever have worn a predominantly green uniform on a few occasions over the last couple of seasons, most notably when playing the Vixens and the Magic.

The game between the firebirds and vixens was definately a game to watch. Even though the vixens came out with w loss the game was still extremely enjoyable and with tegan caldwell stepping up and having an amazing game!. try not be so hard on yourselves, you lost a valuable team member and your game wasnt that poor. Take the loss and look forward on building up. p.s I really enjoyed the game

Thunderbirds fan, but love to watch all the games! Can anyone tell me why the Vixens had a change of uniform today in their game against Fever?

What does this have to do with Renae's article? I think you will find that Cath Cox lived with Liz temporarily when she was between houses, she moved out ages ago and Liz now lives in BALLINA ... so if anyhting, her calling Firebirds, rather than Swifts games is a conflict of interest, living on the QLD border she has zilch to do with the swifts anymore ...

There was a media storm in the early 2000's when eddier Mcguire was accused of having a conflict of interest with him being president of Collingwood and then calling Collingwood games on channel 9. This pales into comparison with Liz Ellis and her conflict of intertest. Not only does she share a house with Cath Cox (NSW Swifts) but Ellis also calls Swifts' games and is allowed to allocate votes to Cox. Now if that isnt a comflict of interest, then the term does not exist.
