Ljubo Milicevic burns Bridges

By The Roar / Editor

Former Socceroo Ljubo Milicevic’s tirade about one-time Newcastle Jets team-mate Michael Bridges on The Roar has stirred up emotion in the Australian football community. Milicevic’s comments were posted in response to Aaron Kearney’s article about Bridges’ retirement as a player and his move into an off-field role

This morning, Ljubo posted an expletive riddled tirade in the comments section of our site, echoing the article he wrote for The Roar on February 2nd, in which he vented his feelings about the A-League and the FFA administration.

Aaron Kearney suggested that Bridges would be able to attract international stars to the A-League, with Bridges doing more for the game as a retired headhunter than he ever did on the pitch, in a career blighted by injury.

Aaron was also widely supportive of Bridges, noting his importance to the Jets, saying the team “achieved nothing” during his frequent and unfortunate periods of injury.

This is the point at which Milicevic unleashed. Posting as ‘Ljubo’ (with his confirmed email address, as he had done so previously), Ljubo took exception to Bridges, noting: “[he] did f–k all for us on the pitch”.

Milicevic continued: “We qualified for the second round of the ACL without him, we actually did well in the league knocking out Gold Coast in the finals one year, without Bridges, and in the second year we were firmly in the finals hunt, yet again without Bridges, until Branko ruined the squad by letting Jeffers go and I left!

“Aaron, my friend, once you clean your head after being stuck so far up Michael’s a–e, you may want to look at the facts!

“He always wanted a retirement plan, he has not played anywhere reguarly for more than 6 years…Okon, Zelic and myself were pushed out of the club!

“We have not quite figured how to conspire and lick ass like others!”

Milicevic is currently playing for South Melbourne in the Victorian Premier League, having left Newcastle at the end of last season with the intention of resuming his career in Europe.

and why wasn't he selected as an ambassador for the club , region or game with his silky smooth diplomatic and media skills?

Well said Cattery. I suspect Ljubo's original comment might have been deleted if it had come from any of us, rather than a professional footballer.

It's a bit sad to watch this, to get stuck into a fellow team mate, one who is widely respected throughout the soccer community. I hope the Roar doesn't encourage this sort of rubbish for the sake of a few hits - it's unbecoming.

VPL is definitely a step up from the A -League and a clear route to Europe... He is one bitter and twisted footballer who clearly woke up with his knickers in a knot this morning.
