After a grinding game in the wet at ANZ Stadium, two Trent Hodkinson field goals, and one in golden point extra time got Jim Dymock his first win as head coach.

After some early pressure from the Eels with multiple sets on the Bulldogs line, it was the Bulldogs who went ahead through Josh Reynolds next to the posts after 30 minutes, after some great work from man of the match Hodkinson with the assist and line break, stepping off his left foot and showing pace.

It was all Canterbury until Jarryd Hayne nabbed an intercept try off a Ben Roberts pass from a set move off an attacking scrum in the 51st minute, which was easily converted to make it 6-6.

Hayne struck a field goal with from his second attempt to put the Eels within a few minutes of victory.

Hodkinson made the Eels go to their second straight week of extra time by putting his own field goal over with 2 minutes to go.

After a first period of golden point extra time, Hodkinson nailed his second to put the Bulldogs in equal 7th.

It is the second time Hodkinson has hit two field goals in a match to win it, having done so at Manly last year.
