NRL players haven’t been deterred from punting on games by last year’s betting scandal, according to the results of a confidential poll.

Rugby League Week’s annual players’ poll found almost one in five players knows of other players who have bet on a game.

The NRL was plunged into scandal late last year following allegations of match-fixing when there was a plunge on a penalty goal as the first scoring play in a Canterbury-North Queensland fixture.

Bulldogs prop Ryan Tandy was charged with four counts of lying to a NSW Crime Commission hearing into the incident.

But players still seem to be willing to take a risk by betting on games, according to a poll of 100 anonymous players.

It also indicated players would be more than willing to entertain the thought of switching to the AFL, with a whopping 25 per cent saying they would consider joining Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau in jumping ship.

In other findings, Melbourne romped away with the dirtiest team in the competition with 49 per cent of the vote, and Bulldogs hooker Michael Ennis was the biggest grub with more than half the vote.

North Queensland halfback Johnathan Thurston was voted the game’s best player and teammate Tariq Sims the best new face.
