A brilliant second half saw the West Tigers beat the St George Illawarra Dragons 16-14 tonight. The game started slowly, with neither side claiming the ascendancy and dropped balls more frequent than big plays.

The first scoring play was a Jamie Soward penalty goal in the 39th minute seeing out the first half 2-0 in a hard-fought but often stop-start tussle, with the flair of Benji Marshall under close wraps.

The second half was more what the fans were looking to see, starting with a Dragons try after Tim Moltzen dropped a Soward bomb, leading to a Darius Boyd try in the 47th minute.

In the 63rd minute, Liam Fulton scored for the Tigers after slamming down after fielding a Robbie Farah bomb.

Benji Marshall scored soon after in the 66th minute to take the lead for the Tigers.

The Dragons hit back after Brett Morris scored near the sideline, and was converted by Ben Hornby to put them 14-12 ahead.

The Tigers scored to put themselves 16-14 ahead in the final minutes through Beau Ryan who was put away after Chris Lawrence was released down the left.

The Dragons had possession in the final minutes, with an opportunity to score in the final play from a scrum. However, the final kick was defused by the Tigers. The Tigers win places them into an enviable position coming into the finals, winning four on the trot.
