Live EPL scores, blog: Arsenal vs Liverpool

By ahenderson / Roar Rookie

Arsenal now has to adjust to life without star and former captain Cesc Fabregas, and from reports, Samir Nasri as well, with the French midfielder looking increasingly likely to make his big money move to Manchester City.

Wenger will also lose striker Gervinho and midfielder Alex Song, both picking up three-match suspensions after encounters with Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton.

Gervinho was given a red-card and Song was picked up by the match review panel.

Arsenal were a bit goal-shy with 0-0 draw with Newcastle in their opening week. Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Kieron Gibbs will be out through injury.

But confidence will be boosted with a 1-0 win over Udinese in the Champions League qualifiers.

On the other and, Liverpool started the new campaign with a 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

The Reds should have won the game at least 2-1, but Suarez failed to hit target from the penalty spot. There were impressive debuts for Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jose Enrique in the game.

Jordan Henderson started well but soon faded. There is a lot of hope and optimism around Anfield with Dalglish splashing the cash.

Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel missed through injury. They will have a stern test against Arsenal this week and for the big signings to step up.

The last season when these two met times ended up with 1-1 draws on both occasions with Kuyt equalising in the 12th minute in extra time in April. Rosicky snatched the equaliser in 90th minute of the match in August.

Betting:

Arsenal: $2.25
Draw: $3.25
Liverpool: $2.90

Expected Line-Ups

Arsenal: Szcezsny, Vermaelen, Sagna, Koscienly, Jenkinson, Rosicky, Ramsay, Djourou, Arshavin, Walcott, Van Persie.

Liverpool: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Agger, Jose Enrique, Lucas, Adam, Henderson, Suarez, Downing, Carroll

Result: Liverpool

It should be a tight game between two big teams. But with Arsenal losing Fabregas, and several key players to injury, I can’t see Liverpool losing. Especially with Dalglish having a full team at his disposal, being able to call on Charlie Adam, Lucas and Carroll.

Key player: Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

The energetic Uruguayan is at the top of his game. He will bring his energy to this Liverpool team, with his silky dribbling abilities and speed to beat defenders.

With Arsenal’s defence known for being fragile, expect Suarez to take it to them. With Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing supporting him, expect Suarez to have a big impact on this game.

Was lucky enough to get along to the game yesterday. Disappointing result to say the least, however a few positives did came out of the match. The performances of Jenkinson, Marqel and especially Frimpong (besides the rash challenge) showed that they might feature in the team more prominently soon. And may well have to again soon with the current state of the squad. Frimpong looked great driving from deep in midfield, was strong in the tackle and seemed to give Arsenal a real presence in midfield. I hope with a little more experience we wont see any more tackles like the one he got sent off for. On another note, Ramsey looked very poor again, and does not appear to be fully fit. Was also aware of how positive the mood was in the crowd towards Nasri, and towards the teams performance, result aside. Liverpool played well without creating that many chances and came away with a big win for them, on the back of goals that both looked to be offside from the stands. I thought that Adam was not up to his best and was surprised they left meireles on the bench for so long.

Too early to know whether the glory days are back for Liverpool or whether the Gunners are about to cede a top 4 spot, they were unlucky today, with one of weirdest own goals I've seen for a while, at the same time, Liverpool played out the 10 man scenario as well as any team could have done.

Full time. Arsenal 0 - Liverpool 2. Dalglish will be happy picking up 3 points at the Emirates. Great game to watch, both teams had the share of possession but Liverpool came out stronger from start to finish. Dalglish put Suarez on the right time. Giving them the much needed boost in energy levels. Wenger will go back to the drawing boards for the upcoming fixture with multiple injuries and suspensions. Player of the Match: Stewart Downing (Liverpool). It was hard to call between Downing and Nasri. But down to it Downing was involved constantly in attack. He used his pace and vision to great effect against the Arsenal defence. He always had great energy and didn't seem to tire towards the end of the match. Thank you for following the game on this Live Blog. Final score Arsenal 0- Liverpool 2 (OG 78' Ramsay, 90' Suarez).

86th minute: Downing's worst mistake of the game. Hitting a very average cross not finding anyone but the touchline billboards. Meireles blazing over the cross bar. Had time to pick his spot.

67th minute: Both sides had a chance each. Carroll had no connection on the ball. Kuyt should of followed up the ball but showed he didn't want anything to do in the play. Nasri passed well to Jenkinson. Poor ball by Jenkinson.

61st minute: Carroll fighting hard for the ball in the box. Corner to Liverpool. But Arsenal easily deal with it. Surely Dalglish would be considering bringing on Suarez thoughts?
