Rugby World Cup live scores: Scotland vs Romania

By The Roar / Editor

Scotland will be looking to put a poor Six Nations performance behind them as they take on Romania in the opening Pool B match this morning. Join us for live scores of Scotland vs Romania from 11.00am AEST.

The Scots were comprehensively beaten in their first four Six Nations before beating fellow competition lightweights Italy, and will need to significantly improve on that form if they have any intentions of making the quarter-finals.

They will be heartened by the two wins they have had registered since the Six Nations, beating Ireland 10-6 and Italy 23-12.

Romania will be looking to spring an upset over the European counterparts and will be confident coming into the tournament on the back of some solid form in the European Nations Cup, albeit against fair inferior opposition.

However, they’ve made six changes from the side who won comfortably over Ukraine 41-7, including captain Marius Tincu and record Romanian test cap holder Cristian Petre.

The match is to take place in Invercargill in southern New Zealand, and the Scots will be home in the cold, blustery conditions that are expected, with rain also forecast.

The wintery conditions will favour Scotland and we could be in for a repeat of the two sides’ meeting at the 2007 World Cup, when Romania were hammered 42-0.

It might not be match of the tournament be any stretch of the imagination, but a tight, physical encounter could be on the cards, and the match presents for Scotland a perfect opportunity to kick-start their campaign.

Begin a great day of 2011 Rugby World Cup action right here from 11.00am, and leave your comments below.

I was watching the game with friends and we too couldn't believe he made the substitutions when Romania had the edge. A similar thing happed in the Japan - France match

for me it goes to show that teams like georgia and romania must be supported by the IRB and the 6 nations.. bring them into the fold gradually and it will be great for the game.. imagine how much they would improve with a good defensive coach and more test matches etc etc

Bad Luck Oaks.. It was in the bag IMO... They should have kept it tight and keep playing scots territory. Their Backline defense is just Woeful. Anyways, great match!

Agree with you and Mexted - shouldn't have made those subs Oaks! They were on top of the Scots until then and well positioned. Think we are going to see A LOT of pick and driving from forwards in the next few weeks - Tonga and Romania have shown the minnows its advantages.

It was there for the taking too. Got to wonder if the Romanian coach got it right with his substitutions. Scotland's class eventually shone through. But what a fright from Romania and very nearly an upset.

Romania's scrum brilliant. Commentators said it perfectly. Watching Romania was like watching them digest food (Scotland is the food). -- Comment left via The Roar's iPhone app. Download The Roar's iPhone App in the App Store here.

Romania take the lead with about 10 to play! They've been all over the Scots for the last 15 minutes.
