Most would have heard by now that the Adelaide Reds have stood down the under-siege Rini Coolen. In a rare move the club has decided to keep Rini at the club and have appointed him their youth team duties.

Club darling and former coach John Kosmina has been given the senior role and will start as of Monday.

Coolen, who is on a four-year contract that only started this year, will now have to decide whether he will continue his relationship with the club or just cut ties.

The low move by Adelaide is obviously financially predicated, and Rini’s usage as youth coach would be administrative at best. The decision to appoint Kosmina to his former role comes at a time when the club is showing no real signs of threat considering the talent they have on their books.

I think Rini still could still have turned things around, given he has been the key in assembling such a talented group of players. Obviously last week’s 3-0 loss to Gold Coast United was the final nail in the coffin, and Adelaide’s favourite son and number one headline grabber is back.

It’s a shame that the headlines won’t be about the football. Good Luck Rini.

That said, it’s great to see the Australian (and New Zealand) coaches in the A-League doing so well. It is likely that the next sacking will be another foreign coach; Ian Ferguson at Perth Glory.
