Gold Coast United vs Melbourne Heart: A-League live scores

By The Roar / Editor

Bottom-placed Gold Coast United will be looking to keep pace with the competition when they host Melbourne Heart at Skilled Park this evening. Join us from 6.30pm AEDT for live scores.

Miron Bleiberg’s Gold Coast United have made significant progress in the past month, yet still find themselves rooted to the bottom of the A-League ladder.

They were unbeaten in four prior to Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle and after rallying from 2-0 down against the Jets, can feel aggrieved that they did not stretch their unbeaten streak to five.

But football can be a cruel game and the Gold Coast still face an uphill battle to claw their way toward the top six.

Tonight they face a Melbourne Heart side smarting from their own reality check, having been outplayed in a 3-1 defeat at home to Adelaide on Wednesday.

The Heart had been riding high on a four match winning streak and will be desperate to right the ship given the cutthroat nature of this competition.

Both sides welcome back key players from injuries with James Brown returning for the home side, and Brazilian midfielder Fred coming back in to take the captain’s armband for the Heart.

Miron Bleiberg and John van’t Schip are both well known for favouring a possession-based footballing philosophy and we could see an attractive game of football this afternoon.

With Fred back for the Heart, they should be able to get the three points but if they turn out like they did on Wednesday against the Reds, the home side is in with a shot tonight.

Pressure continues to intensify for every side in this competition and these two sides are no different. The stakes are high so be sure to join us from the commencement at 6.30pm AEDT for comprehensive live scores and if you’ve got an opinion, post it in the space below.

There were more goals scored during the game then there were spectators in the stands.

Their crowds are a joke, and their owner is a disgrace. This shouldn't be allowed to go on any longer. Ridiculous restrictions on fans, crowd caps, stupid cost cutting measures, it's turning into a farce up there. Clive should just hand back the license to FFA and be done with it. He has alianated at least 5k fans up there and many more potentials. The FFA should stand up and do something about it right now. It's such a disgraceful look for the game. They may as well make the team play behind closed doors. It's a joke....

We played our free "get out of jail" card tonight - phew !!!!!!!!!!! Big credit to GCU, I've said before that they're no mugs and tonight it should really have been their 3 pts.

Always hard to tell from our TV angle, given everyone is seated on the camera side - but when they have had shots of the crowd, the bits they have shown look reasonable. Having said that, it has become a constant theme on sports forums that people dispute crowds - especially in Melbourne with the new stadium all last season, into this season, the crowd numbers were continuously disputed (but don't know how anyone could talk with authority about a new stadium).

Heart goal scorer, Sarkies just hit the crossbar from about 25m.

Gold Coast with all the running now, about 4 shots on goal in 3 minutes. One shot hit the inside of the post, and seemed to run along the goal line and then sort of screwed around the far post and went out, almost defying physics.

I have seen better defended free kicks in the State League, even dear old comical Armadale SC. Good free kick from Sarkies but awful keeping and awful wall and awful defence. Wake UP Gold Coast. Also, they should have told the GC supporters to sit on the sunny side or flipped the cameras to the other side so it doesn't look like such a farce <.<
