Hodge, Hogg score big deals in IPL auction

By News / Wire

Ageing Australian cricketers Brad Hodge and Brad Hogg have earned massive pay-days in the latest Indian Premier League auction.

The Rajasthan Royals purchased both players, with Hodge selling for $US475,000 ($A445,000) and Hogg $US180,000 ($A169,000).

Hogg, just two days shy of his 41st birthday, was summoned into Australia’s Twenty20 team for the just-completed series against India.

And Hodge, who quit first-class cricket in 2009-10 and retired from domestic one-dayers last month, will collect a huge IPL cheque just a fortnight after joining a Bangladesh Premier League outfit for $US140,000 ($A131,150).

Paceman Mitchell Johnson will join the Mumbai Indians for $US300,000 ($A281,000) but several Australians attracted no offers.

Overlooked Australians included Peter Siddle, Steve Smith, Xavier Doherty and Steven O’Keefe.

The auction was continuing on Saturday.
