Cadel Evans is one of eight riders from BMC Racing to compete in the 190km Strade Bianche this weekend in Italy.

Evans’ legion of fans has amassed since his triumphant win in last years Tour de France. His event calendar has been carefully planned to ensure he is well prepared to defend his title in 2012.

The Strade Bianche is a picturesque one-day ride in the white gravel and rolling hills of Tuscany. The landscape conjures up images of Frances Maye’s novel ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’. The finish line is in the Pizza del Campo in Siena, a public square renowned for both its beauty and architectural splendour.

Evans is at home in Italy. His wife Chiara is Italian and he speaks the language fluently. And the Strade Bianche is a stone’s throw from their home in Stabia, Switzerland. Together with Chiara and their recently adopted son, whom Chiara describes as an ‘entertainer’, Evans has a lot to ride for.

And so does team BMC. With new signings Phillipe Gilbert (Belgium) and Thor Hushovd (Norway) this group of riders looks to impress in the European spring.

The official word from BMC Racing is that each man will ride for himself in the spring calendar. In the Tour de France they will devote themselves to Cadel.

In the meantime expect exciting things from BMC this weekend.

The eight BMC riders at Strade Bianche include last year’s winner Gilbert (Bel) together with runner-up Alessandro Ballan (Ita), Cadel Evans (Aus), Adam Blythe (GBR), George Hincapie (USA), Martin Kohler (SUI), Marco Pinotti (Ita) and Greg Van Avermaet (Bel).
