Daniel Anderson to join the coaching ranks at Joeys

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

There was some hot news announced on Monday to staff at Joeys (St Josephs College, Hunters Hill), one of the top rugby union schools in the world, having produced over 50 Wallabies and at least one All Black (Steve Devine).

Joeys has also produced several notable rugby league players, as well.

Famous NRL coach and league analyst Daniel Anderson has been appointed to assist with coaching, especially of the defence, at St Josephs College throughout the coming season. He will assist with coaching across all age grades, not just the First XV.

Br Anthony Boyd and Mr Jeremy Ticehurst remain as coaches of the Joeys First XV.

Anderson is a highly recognised professional league coach, with particular recognition for his skill as a coach at the highest national level.

His appointments have included Director of Coaching, New Zealand Rugby League; Head Coach, New Zealand Kiwis; Head Coach, New Zealand Warriors; Head Coach, Rugby League Samoa; ABC Radio Rugby League Analyst; Head Coach, Parramatta Eels NRL; Head Coach, St Helens in the UK Super League.

Anderson is also an experienced teacher and will be involved in the College as a relief teacher on a regular basis as part of his appointment. He will commence his appointment today.

This is an “interesting” development for Joeys and for GPS schoolboy rugby in Sydney in general. One is reminded of John Muggleton’s career
change from rugby league to professional rugby union.

Phil mate, selective memory is a curse. I believe Joeys went through the 2007 season undefeated, a year after Beale left, despite all the doomsayers predicting otherwise. Perhaps it would be a good idea to get your facts right before posting on here.

Yes, that's Betham nearest camera. I think Paddy Ryan (current Waratah prop) is there as well, fourth from camera.

Anderson is a great coach. His record is impressive. Good move by Joeys. Osbourne and 3P were the issue at Parra and what a legacy they have created...

maybe he wants to branch in to coaching real Rugby and starting from the bottom to see if he is any good. I would like to Ricky Stuart move in to Rugby coaching he would be of more use and get more respect than he does in League

There has been way too much emphasis on academic performance for too long at Joeys. It's about time that rugby and winning were the main focus again. Ever since the school changed from boarding only the slide began...

from what I know, they should be selecting/appointing teachers to get their academic results sorted before an assistant coach for the rugby...................

Could be a bit of a sad reflection on the career path of Daniel Anderson really. Do they have room for Steven Kearney as well?

Is that photo definitely from 2006? The bloke on the end looks suspiciously like a young Kurtley Beale!

Sounds more to me he couldn't get a job as a coach so has gone back to teaching!
