West Indies vs Australia 4th ODI: Cricket live scores, commentary

By Suneer Chowdhary / Roar Guru

The fourth ODI between West Indies and Australia will be played at Gros Islet and we’ll bring you the live scores and commentary of the action starting at 12.30 am AEST on Saturday.

Three games into the series and the home ODI tri-series winners Australia are in a bit of a spot. With a tad more luck, their opponents in this series, West Indies could have well won the series by now.

Despite the difference in the ODI ranking between the two teams – Australia’s number one to eighth rank of West Indies – the home team has troubled the opponents in all the three games so far.

Inability to adapt to the slow nature of the St. Vincent pitches and West Indies’ pleasantly surprising never-say-die spirit has meant that the series is currently tied at 1-1, with the draw occurring in the last game. All to play for then, when the two sides meet in the fourth ODI.

Australia will obviously hope that the ball comes on to the bat a lot more than it did at St. Vincent. Dave Warner likened the ground to the WACA in Perth while speaking with the media before adding rather cryptically that it wouldn’t be as quick as that pitch.

He will definitely hope to bat longer on the track than he has in the series. So will the rest of the top-order which has struggled to cope with the absence of the experienced duo of Ricky Ponting (dropped) and captain Michael Clarke (injured).

West Indies will be boosted by the return of Adrian Barath and after their problems at the top of the innings, his presence should add more solidity and flair. He replaces Kieran Powell.

Their opponents could see two changes to the playing 11. Daniel Christian and Nathan Lyon could face some time away from the action as Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Forrest make a comeback to the side.

We will bring you the coverage throughout this fourth ODI of the series between West Indies and Australia from Gros Islet and hope to receive your opinions as the action unfolds from 12.30am AEDT.

I am assuming Kieron Pollard will be the man of the match for his super show with the bat. The fifth and the final ODI will be played on Sunday and I will be there with the live coverage of the game. Till then, have a good time!

It was expecting too much from Lee to see the side through after the batting on display from the top-order. Barring Le and David Hussey, the rest of the batsmen batted without a lot of focus and lost wickets to some poor stroke-play. There was a bit of bounce in the pitch but it should have suited Australia, who are more used to playing on such pitches than the one at St. Vincent. Narine was the star of the show for West Indies again, with 1/21 while Andre Russell, despite his knee issues, managed to pick two wickets for 34. Sammy, Bravo and Roach had two wickets to their name too.

OUT! Lee has holed out to the long-off and that ends the game in West Indies' favour. It was an excellent innings from Lee but it proved to insufficient. They take a 2-1 lead now and this means that West Indies cannot lose this series! That is a rarity in recent times...

Lee's swinging hard at Roach but he has missed a couple of them now. Bowling around the wicket.

Just one wide off the over and a wicket. Narine has ended with figures of 1/21 in 10 overs in a game where Australia is scoring at 5.5! 44 needed from 4 overs and Lee has the strike. He will try and go after every ball here. It is Roach to bowl. He was banished for 24 in his last over by Lee

Ben Hilfenhaus, who can hit them long, is the new man at the crease. He needs to keep three deliveries out. Narine will back himself to pick this up here.

OUT! Doherty has pushed it straight to the short-cover and Sammy takes a good catch. This was an excellent move to not hold back Narine, especially when Doherty was going to take strike at the start of the over. After two dot balls, the pressure was on the number 10 batsman and he drove it straight to the fielder.

Sunil Narine will bowl his last over. 0/20 in 9. Doherty against him.

A single to Xavier Doherty off the last ball of the over brings him strike once again. 45 needed from 30 for now. Lee's on 59 off 45.

SIX! Another one, slower one and Lee has smacked it over the bowler's head for another six! This is excellent batting from Lee, who has moved on to 59 from 45 balls! 46 needed from 32. They are hanging in there, are the visitors.

SIX! What a way to get to his 50! This is Pollard reincarnated! Lee has smacked a slower one from Russell over long-on for a big six...

After that first-ball four Bravo conceded only two more and took a wicket. 59 needed from six with two wickets standing. Some of the top-order batsmen will need a talking to for playing all those poor strokes, no doubt brought about the huge target.

OUT! Change of pace and McKay has played a silly stroke given what Lee's been doing at the other end. It was bowled slower and McKay needed to do his best to try and rotate the strike. Instead he lofts it to long-on and it caught by Pollard easily. Eight down. 60 required.

Four! Drifts down the leg-side and Lee flicks it away to the region between fine-leg and square-leg. That has gone to the fence, reducing the required runs to 61 from 41 now. Very achievable now, except for the wickets. Three of them in the tank and currently it is Clint McKay supporting him.

Better over from Andre Russell, concedes only two. 65 needed from seven.

Speaking of the beamer at Lee, it must be said that some fans may say that it was Lee's taste of his own medicine. He has delivered a few painful beamers in his career before. Here is one to Trescothick and one to Tendulkar!

SIX! It has to be that beamer! How else can you describe this sudden transformation! Lee's hitting them and they are disappearing faster than they are getting to him. Slashed away off Bravo over the cover region for a six. 67 needed from eight overs. Australia is not giving up on this one yet!

SIX! Six more, Lee's on fire and he is scalding the West Indians hard! Backs himself to clear the ropes and he does exactly that over mid-wicket. Roach's almost been hit out of the attack at this stage, 1/73 in 9 overs. 74 needed off nine overs now, 24 off the Roach over.
