UCI World Track Cycling Championships: Live updates, blog (Day 2)

By Kit Harvey / Roar Guru

The velodrome at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena is set to explode once again on day two of the 2012 UCI World Track Cycling Championships. Join us for live updates and blog of Day 2 of the all the track cycling action.

The schedule features: the women’s sprint, women’s team pursuit, women’s points race, men’s 1km time trial and the first two events of the men’s omnium (the track cycling equivalent of a decathlon) – the flying lap and the points race.

Australian Anna Meares, the reigning sprint world champion, spearheads the women’s sprint field. Meares and countrywoman Kaarle McCulloch showed solid form in the team sprint on day one, taking home the silver medal and were within 0.082 seconds of gold medallists Germany.

The Australian women’s team pursuit trio Annette Edmondson, Melissa Hoskins and Josephine Tomic, has the chance to even the ledger after Great Britain pipped a gallant Australian outfit by 0.106s in the men’s team pursuit yesterday. The British women are chasing their fourth world title in five years in an ominous record.

A 20km grind awaits young Tasmanian Amy Cure when she takes to the boards for the women’s points race.

At the other end of the spectrum, South Australian James Glasspool will suit up for a comparatively short (and hopefully sweet) outing in the men’s 1km time trial final.

With a number of gold medals up for grabs, it is sure to be an exciting day of track cycling. We’ll bring you live updates, timings and blog as the days action unfolds.

you've been hard at work kit - unfortunately couldn't follow live, but melbourne does truly seem like the sporting capital now(however grudgingly i say that), having just had the F1 too! keep up the great work.
