Shows how little you know, eagleJack, I'm a ticketed member of the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls. I'm also a non-ticketed member of the Northern Pride and North Queensland Cowboys. The membership with the Pride allows me to watch all home games live. I pay $5 every time they play an away game. I do it because I want to see more rugby league. I don't care who is playing, I just want to see Queensland teams play. The only clubs I dislike are the unprofitable ones from Sydney. I believe they're holding the game back. I have no problems with Canterbury-Bankstown, South Sydney, St George-Illawarra and Wests Tigers.

The sheer depth of talent coming out of Queensland, which is the point I was trying to get across, proves that a fourth Queensland club wouldn't have any trouble acquiring a decent roster. Nor would they have any trouble developing their own juniors. One of the keys to being a successful NRL club is having a strong nursery to draw talent from. The Queensland Cup is the strongest second-tier competition in the country. The Queensland NRL clubs benefit from it. How are Manly going off the field?

Not sure what calendar you use Oikee up there in Queensland. The Manly v Storm game is 8 weeks away, a lot of water will pass under the bridge between now & then.

Bearfax don't bother arguing with oikee. You see there are 2 types of league supporters out there. I, like yourself, love my team. But I love Rugby League and enjoy watching other sides play as well. And respect what they bring to the table. I'll admire opposition players and will praise them even if they tear my own team apart. Then there are people like oikee and Queenslands Game is Rugby League who support a team but spend more time and energy hating another. So much so that they become delusional and this anger (ironic since Manly are supposed to be angry) clouds their judgement. In the end they find they hate another side more than they love their own. More time is spent in opposition teams forums trying to prove their ill informed and misguided points. Ad nauseum. But it's all good. That's the culture of Rugby League and that's why I love it.

So are you saying the Cowboys are successful then? Cause failure to keep their juniors is not a reason to suggest that they 'could' be successful. If the Dragons kept all of their juniors they would be unstoppable too. Sorry nothing you have said here suggests another QLD team would be successful. I'll focus on my team who will continue to be a force for years to come. I suggest you concentrate on yours.

That culture of 'anger and hate was not Manly's creation. It originated mainly through Roy Masters 'Sivertails and Fibros' allusion back in the early 1980's and it developped from there. The culture of anger and hate is not maintained by Manly supporters, but rather by people like you Oikee. As for the crowd, yes not great but if you have seen Brookvale Oval (and the reason the first five games weren't played there) is that almost a quarter to a third of the spectator arena is under re-construction. Manly only has a capacity of a little over 20000 at this stage (plans exist for bigger stadiums there mind you) and without that spectator area the capacity at present is much lower. The game against Penrith got only about 17000 and yet was standing room only and people were turned away. As for Manly fans travelling I guess you dont know the geography of Sydney do you. The Manly peninsula has only three principal roads out, and only one directly to the city. It is the only area of Sydney NOT to have a train line. Anyone who has driven or taken a bus along the main road access ( a four lane street) knows of the delay time it takes just to get to the city centre. And then you have to travel some substantial distance from there to get to other grounds. Only Cronulla (and they have a train service) and St George Illawarra (train service available again) have comparable driving distances to other football grounds including the Stadium. I mentioned before that someone coming from the upper northern beaches with family may have up to two and a half to three hours travel to get to the stadium and same back again. I should point out that while Manly supporters may not be known to cross the bridge, not that many supporters from other clubs cross the bridge to see Manly games at Brookvale either. Its not disinterest, its travel time. Canberra supporters could get to the stadium faster than supporters from many locations on the northern beaches (expressways).

Well you vertually agreed with all that i said. And yes the Roosters are guilty as well, but they have a diffrent culture, which i talked about below. Manly have a culture of hate and anger.

It is a different culture created, someone mentioned the Broncos have 2 million to draw from, fair enough, but we have not won a tital for 6 years and we still get 45thou to derbies and 30thou to away games. This is the lasting culture the Broncos have, and along with our Queensland teams all having indigernous Captains, Prince, Thurston and now Friday, Queensland has a whole different culture, one created by fair play and hard graft. The whole state feeds from this, drinks from the same trough. Manly? their winning culture has created only 11 thousand bother to turn up, and this after a few years at the top. A Brisbane Derby would get 50 thousand turn up, yet when Manly cross that bridge, your on your own , that seems to be the message. It cant keep going on like this. Manly tried to create a culture of hate and anger, and it wont work in this day and age, it has backfired and Dessy got out, Manly should be filthy at him. And they put another angry man in his place. So it is not over yet for this club, but it wont be long now, the Storm game is coming up.

You really seem to have a serious bias against Manly dont you Oikee. I could understand if you were suffering from their actions in 'stealing' a lot of players in the 70's and 80's. Circumstances changed big time in the past 2 decades or didnt you notice and are you still trapped in that time zone. There are many clubs out there that have been outdoing for talent 'Manly' for years....Manly is now like Cronulla, Titans, Wests, Penrith, even North Queensland, struggling with less money than other teams, having their teams plundered by the 'richer' clubs, suffering (and obviously you've missed this) more penalties than most other clubs(check the statistics) and having a player out for the longest duration this season of any club. The suggestion that the refs are supporting Manly in some ways is not only pure fantasy, it flies against the evidence regarding penalties given. Your suggestion about Lyon taking a dive is just sheer maliciousness, but that's to be expected. And yes Matai can be dangerous at times with his swinging arm, but he's spent a lot of time on the sideline for it, so its not as if he's being favoured. As for juniors, yes Manly struggles a little but there are worse off teams (Norths were in fact worse, Sydney City juniors are non existant, Cronulla struggles, Melbourne has to buy in...so what's your point). By the way Manly's SG Ball team came in 3rd before the finals this year and their Matthew Shield side only just missed the finals. NSW Cup side is about middle of the comp. Only Toyota Cup side is a cellar dweller so the juniors are doing pretty well at present. And as for Mnaly stealing from Parramatta, I guess the Hopoate brothers, Hodgkinson, Warea-Hargraves etc (all top class players and plus another three top juniors to Sydney City) dont count. Not to mention the likely loss of Lussick, Tony Williams (who made his name at Manly) and maybe even Matai to Cronulla. But then Oikee is not only one eyed about this argument, he even suffers from colour blindness

Parramatta. :) A 11 thousand crowd tells me one thing, on a perfect night at a beachside club, people are voting with their feet, and the fight night at Manly has turned alot of People off. Trust me, who wants to take their kids to a club that had one Stewart drunk and fighting with the CEO, and the other causing a fight , or massive brawl. Can anyone in their right mind imagine this going on at the Broncos, in primetime tv on a friday night. ? The code would be finished within a year. Mums and Dads dont want to see this garbage. Manly fans, your club is mud at the moment, and once you play the Storm this year it is all over, because Toovey will use the same tactics, he is a angry ant.

Dessy left a leagacy alright, of hatred and loathing , his tactics he had Stewart use with the grub match against the Storm, i dont know if Manly can recover. The outrage has left this club floundering,. this is the real cause of fans not wanting to turn up, not wanting to be part of this culture. This is why the Bears voice is growing stronger and stronger, and you will get Manly fans tell you it was the Bears fault, all the Bears fault they left the comp. this is Manly, always blaming someone else, it is never their fault, just ask Gallop. It is all his fault stewart got plastered at a Mnaly function. :)

Ian, You don't know what you're talking about. Try getting people from Brisbane to support a team that's based in Logan. Then go to the three or four LGAs that make up St. George and get people who were born and raised there to support the Sharks. If you find more than a handful of people who do that then you'll make a fine salesman. So how do you explain that, Ian? If people don't care about LGAs then how come the people of Brisbane won't touch anything that's associated with Logan.I was born and raised in Brisbane and now live in Logan. I see the hatred that people from Brisbane have for Logan. They won't go near it and the only things they say about it are negative. Logan is an LGA.

You cannot blame their demise on the Gold Coast. The Chargers made a profit during the Super League war. The ARL sacrificed them because they didn't want to axe another Sydney club. That's a fact. "And the Crushers failed both on and off the field." The team was put together at the 23rd hour. One of the blokes who's running the Bombers bid reckons the Crushers had sponsors willing to support them. The NRL axed them because the rationalisation agreement meant the competition had to be reduced from 22 clubs to 14. There was no way they were going to keep get rid of any more Sydney-based clubs to save a 3-year-old Queensland club. "We keep hearing about the depth of talent in QLD yet only the Broncos are successful." ROTFLMAO! If the Cowboys retained their juniors then they would be the most dominant force in the NRL. Players like Billy Slater, Nate Myles, Sam Thaiday, Josh Hoffman, Ben Barba, Daly Cherry-Evans and many more are products from north and central Queensland. The Cowboys overlooked all of them, including Cherry-Evans (his father was a recruitment manager at the club when he was going through the ranks). How many born-and-bred juniors are playing for Manly? Their team is based around Ballen, Cherry-Evans, Foran and Brett Stewart. The first 2 are Queenslanders. Foran is a Kiwi and Stewart is from the Illawarra region. Take them out of the team and Manly wouldn't make the top 8.

Mate you sound like an expert in everything. I'm all for another team in QLD. But unfortunately for you it won't come at the expense of Manly. I do worry though that we are about to see the demise of another Gold Coast outfit. And the Crushers failed both on and off the field. We keep hearing about the depth of talent in QLD yet only the Broncos are successful. I'd love to see an Ipswich side and maybe Central QLD but will they work when so many have failed beforehand? Manly are here to stay so I'll send you a supporter pack if you want? I can tell you have a soft spot for them :)
