Stars of the future: How Adelaide United built the best youth system in Australia
It was not too long ago that it was no guarantee that the best youth talents from South Australia would make their A-League debuts…
Adelaide United will be looking to shore up their position at the top in Group E of the Asian Champions League when they host Pohang Steelers tonight. We’ll have live scores from 8.00pm AEST.
On the back of a Eugene Galekovic howler, Adelaide returned home from Korea empty-handed after their third match of the group stage but with two wins under their belt already, they are still well placed to advance to the knockout phase.
But the challenge for John Kosmina’s men will be reproducing a consistent performance, particularly given that they have not played since the last ACL game back on April 3.
Tonight the Reds will be missing one of the vital cogs in playmaker Dario Vidosic, who has been unable to recover from a hamstring strain picked up last time out, meaning Adelaide must find other creative options through the middle of the pitch.
While the Reds have not been able to build form or fitness through competitive football their opponents Pohang have, although the results have hardly been encouraging, with the Koreans losing their last two K-League matches.
Both teams currently sit on six points in first and second position in Group E after two wins from three matches and a win tonight would go a long way toward securing one of the top two spots in the group.
Neither side will be short of motivation. Who gets the three points? Find out from 8.00pm AEST as we cover midweek ACL action with live scores throughout the 90 minutes. If you’re watching or following along, leave us your thoughts in the space below.
