West Indies vs Australia 3rd Test, Day 5: Live scores, commentary

By Suneer Chowdhary / Roar Guru

The final day of Australia’s tour of the Caribbean will see the visitors want to quickly eke out the West Indian lower-order to take the series 2-0. Coverage commences at 1.00am AEST.

At one stage though, it looked like the West Indies were on their way to making things tricky for the tourists. Chasing a total of 370 for an improbable win, West Indies had notched up 3/155 with around half hour to the close.

Darren Bravo (45) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (69) were going strong and the stand was already worth 100.

Then Bravo slashed one from Shane Watson to the wicket-keeper and Chanderpaul was dismissed lbw off the last ball of the day to tilt the balance heavily in favour of the batting team.

Earlier, Australia were bowled out quickly on the fourth day, for the addition of only 59. Shane Shillingford became the first spinner to take a 10-for since Lance Gibbs did that for the West Indies in 1966, but West Indies were left a monumental chase.

Things quickly turned nasty for the home side as Adrian Barath flicked to the square-leg fielder, Ed Cowan, who dived and pulled off a ripper single-handed catch.

16 overs into the innings and with only 28 on the board, Brathwaite was dismissed by Clarke, who returned to take the wicket of Kieran Powell as well. West Indies were 3/45 and sinking.

Chanderpaul joined Bravo and steadied the ship, and in the process became the second West Indian to score 10,000 Test match runs.

For a while when they were at the crease, we were looking at an exciting fifth day’s play, but the dismissal of both the set batsmen makes the target of the remaining 197 runs improbable.

We will bring you the coverage throughout this third Test match of the series between West Indies and Australia from Dominica and hope to receive your opinions as the action unfolds from 1.00am AEST.

It is Matthew Wade who wins the man of the match award, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been awarded the man of the series prize.

In the end, this has been a hard-fought series but Australia have played the vital moments better than their opponents. West Indies probably gave away the advantage to their opponents in the first innings when they conceded a huge lead to the Aussies, that of 110 runs. After that, it was a matter of time after that, especially given how the Aussie batsmen were able to get the better of the pitch to an extent. 370 was always going to be a tough ask and the loss of three early wickets and two wickets before the end of the day's play yesterday went against them. Shillingford took 10 in the game, Chanderpaul scored 68 and 69, Matthew Wade scored a century and Lyon picked up seven. Who will the man of the match be?

OUT! Gone, all over, Australia have won this one! Sammy went after Lyon, who had been called up and the sweep shot takes the top edge, and gives a catch to short fine-leg. West Indies have been bowled out for 294 at the stroke of what would have been the lunch break...Australia have won it by 75 runs.

Four! Driven through the covers and for four! That is a superb stroke and takes Shillingford to his best Test score. Follows it up with another drive through the covers for a couple! Moves to 30... 9/292

Some defending from the number 11, he is not comfortable against this pace but he is holding his end well. And Sammy's not worried about taking singles off the first ball or allowing him to take a run off the last! 9/286 chasing 370.

Four! Four more to Sammy and this has been pulled away to fine-leg. What batting this, from the West Indian captain. 9/282.

Four! And Shillingford gets another four! That is pulled away to the fence and of the 31 runs scored by this pair, he has made 22.

In case you are interested in the IPL, Virender Sehwag is doing a Sammy too. He has raced away to 72 off 38 balls with Delhi on 0/126 in the 13th over.

Fifty! Here we go, half-century for the West Indian captain and he is not one to give up too easily on him. That's what most fans around the world like about him. 9/270. 100 needed.

So the quick bowlers are on and the new ball has been taken, some nine overs after it is due.

Alright so when Sammy isn't them, what is he doing? He is watching his number 11 from the non-striker's end emulating him! Three balls and all three of them have been carted away to the fence for a four!

Clarke will continue, gunning for his sixth. Single to Sammy through the slips.

Four! Four for the batsman, drilled over mid-off and then follows it up with another attempted shot over long-on, gets a couple. West Indies are not going to muck around here. 119 needed. One wicket standing.

Clarke has a five-wicket haul, which I think is his second in Tests!

SIX and OUT! That is it then, Rampaul is the one who gets carried away, hits Clarke for a six and then gets out caught... ...he was not going to let-up, went for another big one and that has caught easily at long-on. Shane Shillingford in, for some taste of his medicine here.

Four! This time it is Rampaul who gets a four off Clarke. Driven through the covers for a boundary! Any thoughts on whether he is getting a little too carried away here Clarke?
