Cyclist Alex Edmondson can only find one word for being half of Australia’s first brother-sister combination to ride at an Olympics – crazy.
The 18-year-old and his 20-year-old sister Annette were on Friday named in Australia’s cycling team for the London Games.
“Just to be able to do it by yourself would be amazing,” Alex told reporters in Adelaide.
“But to have my sister there next to me, it’s going to be crazy.”
Alex secured the only position in doubt when named in the five-man endurance squad while Annette featured in the team pursuit.
Alex’s selection capped a remarkable rise for the Malaysian-born rider who just last year was competing on the junior circuit.
“It has been a crazy last six months to come from the junior ranks and step up to the big ranks,” he said.
“It has been a massive roller coaster.
“But at the moment I’m just absolutely over the moon, it’s pretty overwhelming … words don’t describe it really.
“We have been saying in the media recently about how it would feel if we did make the team, but now we have made it – I thought I was going to be able to cope with it, but it’s just crazy.”

Having one child make the Olympics would be enough for any parent to celebrate so I can just imagine the excitment over having both of these children in there. What an exciting story for Australian cycling.
