What will another loss mean for the Dees?

This Sunday at 3:15pm will be a defining moment for the future of the Melbourne Demons Football Club. 2012 has been a tumultuous season for the Dees, with many lows and few highs.

The loss of former number one draft pick Tom Scully to the GWS Giants was only the tip of the iceberg in regards to the trouble that would follow.

After signing big man Mitch Clark in a coup for the club from the also struggling Brisbane Lions, Melbourne’s luck would soon run out.

The passing of club legend and club president Jim Stynes in late March was a terrible time that the Demons have struggled to come back from.

To make matters even worse, shortly after the Demons were forced to drop their major sponsor after the company’s CEO posted a racist and derogatory rant on Twitter.

Luckily for the seemingly down and out Demons, they managed to sign a new major sponsor to get their season back on track.

The up and down luck for the Demons would continue, however, as new head coack Mark Neeld was falsely accused of making racist comments. This was sorted out soon after, but still would tarnish Neeld’s name and further disrupt Melbourne’s season.

Once the footy started, the Demons could not manage a win until round 10, knocking of the fancied Bombers.

This Sunday now looms as a crucial must win for the Dees as they come up against Greater Western Sydney.

There is no doubting that there are many nervous Melbourne supporters this week, as they know that the Giants are in good form and will be looking to perform on their first visit to the almighty MCG.

Can the Dees salvage something from the 2012 wreckage? Or will they be GWS’ second ever victim?

Because C: Rohan Bail, Jack Trengove, Jack Grimes Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Jordie McKenzie is not as good as C: Tom Scully, Callan Ward, Adam Treloar Foll: Dean Brogan, James McDonald, Dylan Shiel Int: Jonathan Giles GWS are beating Melbourne 37-35 in clearances, despite Melbourne getting vastly more hitouts at 45 to 33. GWS are beating Melbourn in total possessions at 339 to 313, while contested possessions are dead even at 135 each. Melbourne have worse disposal efficiency, at 69% to 71%. Tackles are marginally 66-65 in Melbourne's favour, and clangers are also marginally in Melbournes favour at 46 to 48. Marks inside 50 are in Melbourne's favour at 81-78. Statistically, they are very, very even sides.

Demons by 10 goals, not sure why some people think GWS any chance. They lose by an average of 11 goals.
