Tour de France Twitter wrap: Stage 12

By hamleyn / Roar Guru

After three tough days in the Alps, the race has taken on a slightly different complexion. Our hero, Cadel, has fallen out of the top three and is now over three minutes behind Wiggins, who remains in yellow.

Nibali has replaced him and Froome still holds down second.

One wonders if Froome had not been caught up in a crash earlier in the race when he lost two minutes to the leaders, whether Sky may be backing the wrong guy. Froome’s attack up La Toussuire that dropped Wiggins quite comfortably says to me that he’s a bit like Pierre Rolland last year. Clearly the stronger rider than his leader but unable to break free due to team restrictions.

As for Cadel, there is still a lot of water to go under the bridge yet, but being over three minutes down on one of the best time triallers in the world is going to be a steep ask.

Anyway, to the tweets…

When Jens is in the hurtbag, its bad news for everyone #jensvoigtquotes #shutuplegs
By the way, if you want some laugh out loud reading, make sure you check out the series of tweets Jens wrote about his daughter having horse riding lessons.

Cav heaping praise on David Millar and the British national team. Oh and in case you were wondering who was the odd one out, it was Ian Stannard (who isn’t actually at the Tour). #thenewdreamteam #pommybastards

It wouldn’t be a proper mountain stage without this being the case, Brett

I wonder how many riders have openly said this before and then tested positive…*cough* Lance Armstrong *cough*

Stoked for David Millar. He is the one ex-doper who I actually now have some respect for on a personal level. What a champion…

…Although this is just outright spooky #Friday13th #racefixing

Cadel rather analytical about last night’s stage

This seems to make sense…

And this is the reason why Frank Schleck hasn’t won a Tour de France #enoughsaid

Gossy’s relegation was an interesting one. I reckon relegating him one place to behind Sagan, given how far ahead of everyone else they were, would’ve been good enough. Stripping him of all his points from the stage was excessive. Hard to argue against him being erratic though. #thatwaswild #abdujaparovstyle

This pass by Mick Rogers is flatout un-Australian. We don’t want you any more, Dodger. Go and live in England the rest of your life #traitor

May I direct your attention to a dictionary, where you may look up the word sarcasm. A friendly jest at one of our best ever cyclists!

Once again, I love reading all the tweets in one place. I haven't been able to follow these directly on Twitter so having you collect the good ones, sure is very appreciated.

Well this pass is flat-out un-cycling :'This pass by Mick Rogers is flatout un-Australian. We don’t want you any more, Dodger. Go and live in England the rest of your life #traitor' - cycling is team sport int all but the Olympics and Worlds - what's wrong with you? you don't have the right attitude to be cyclists. Leave Mick Rogers and Richie Porte alone - they're doing a fantastic job for their team, and you Aussies should be proud of them. I'm proud of Cummings and the job he does for BMC, and really enjoyed the success cadel had last year! In another race, depending on form, Mick and/or Richie might be the protected riders for Sky. Pride in our nations shouldn't be confused with Nationalistic rants!!
