The Sydney Roosters will need to be at their best tonight if they are to beat eternal rivals the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the second time this season. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7:00pm AEST.
The Roosters produced a Houdini act against the Rabbitohs back in Round 1 and will look to once again ruin South Sydney’s plans of finals football when they clash tonight.
Despite their low position on the NRL ladder, Sydney’s record against South Sydney is an imposing one and Brian Smith’s men will look to continue their strangle hold over the Rabbitohs by securing another important victory.
South Sydney, however, has won seven of its past nine games and is in terrific form after disposing of the Knights last week.
The Roosters on the other hand are coming off a draw against Cronulla last Monday night and need a win to keep their faint finals hopes alive.
Prediction:
The Roosters are the most penalised side in the NRL this season and will be in for a long night if their ill discipline continues against South Sydney.
Whether it be Issac Luke up the middle, Adam Reynolds in the halves or Dave Taylor and Greg Inglis on the edges, the Rabbitohs possess great firepower and will tear Sydney apart if the home side fails to maintain discipline tonight.
Brian Smith’s men must also respect possession and avoid shooting themselves in the foot against a South Sydney attack that has made a recent habit of punishing opposition mistakes.
Despite their inconsistency this season, the Roosters usually perform well against South Sydney so expect the chooks to play with high intensity for as long as the match stays close.
Sydney has won four of its past five matches against the Rabbitohs, meaning that South Sydney will have to turn up with their best if they are to upset their recent negative record against the Roosters.
With this in mind, the Rabbitohs will be keen to get off to a fast start tonight.
The Roosters have severely struggled to claw back deficits this season, and more worryingly, often fall apart when quick tries are scored against them.
If South Sydney manages to score an early try, it could well end up being a long night for the Roosters, particularly if Inglis and Taylor begin to cause havoc.
While the Roosters will start enthusiastically, the Rabbitohs simply possess too much firepower across the park, and at their best, should secure a win over their rivals.
Rabbitohs by 14.

Quite amazing honestly. Under the rivalry's influence the SFS has become some sort of sped up Bermuda triangle zone during the final minutes. The first Easts Souths clash was at Homebush right otherwise this is too spooky, or is that even more spooky?

Wow! Been following your updates as I don't have Foxtel. I think I laughed for a good minute or two when I saw your 8:49 update. Hilarious! Good win for the Bunnies. Someone should market the dvds of both Roosters v Bunnies games from this season back to back.....

That's a good question Matty. I think the Roosters though will be thinking why BOTHER playing well for 79 minutes when you just give the game away in the last minute? Its happened twice now in the season and as a Roosters fan I cope it on the chin. Roosters just not good enough for full eighty minutes and they have once again learned a tough lesson in regards to consistency and maintaining intensity for the full eighty minutes.

The local derby between the Roosters and Rabbitohs has just changed forever yet again. In round 1 it was the Roosters who stole the win but the Rabbitohs have pulled off a miracle of their own to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat against the chooks. The Rabbitohs were second best tonight but a minute is a long time in football and the Roosters simply could not hang on and the Rabbitohs pounced. Taylor sent McQueen on his way and Reynolds eventually scores the winner. The Roosters for the second time this season have lost a match when leading by 8 points with just seconds remaining. It is a defeat that will scar the club for a while. The Roosters season is all but over now and the Rabbitohs edge their way to the top four. This is a season defining win for the Rabbitohs but they have a lot of improving to do if they are to consider themselves genuine premiership contenders. Thanks for joining us for this live blog and we look forward to your company next time on The Roar. What a win to the Bunnies! Roosters 22 Rabbitohs 24
