CAMPO: Deans is just not the right fit for the Wallabies

Can someone explain how the ARU can give Robbie Deans four more games to prove himself? I don’t understand what the purpose of this approach is.

The Wallabies just got beaten 22-0 by the All Blacks, yet the coach is still there.

Would any other country allow this to happen? It’s not good enough.

Deans trotted out all the excuses in the book after the game: “We played the All Blacks. No one would have beaten them”, etc, etc.

But what is he actually trying to do? Enough excuses already.

It’s pretty apparent that the players don’t like playing under him, which is why they are losing so regularly. And the team is going nowhere: they have no game-plan, no obvious style of rugby, and there’s no real energy or passion in anything they’re doing.

And there are some players out there that don’t add value to the team at all.

We have centres who can’t kick, pass, or even make space for the wingers. We stand miles behind the advantage line all the time, with nobody putting the other team under pressure.

What has happened to the running game that the Wallabies dominated?

Yes, rugby has changed, and yes, players are bigger, stronger, and fitter. But why do we have players who can’t adapt to the game now?

The All Blacks are playing with skill, speed, and vision. Why can’t we?

We have always had players with these skills but now we can’t even score points in a Test match

It’s all too structured, and they’re just not playing like a professional outfit at the moment.

Deans mightn’t be a bad coach, but he’s not the right fit for the Wallabies. He doesn’t seem to understand the Australian style of rugby.

I think 5 years is long time to get things right. What do you, as the public, think? Why four games?

Conveniently, we aren’t playing the All Blacks again, so the odds are already in Deans favour.

And Argentina are the new boys on the block, so we should beat them

Importantly, he hasn’t fixed some of our long-term issues. We still haven’t got a decent forward pack and centers who can work together.

And his use of the bench has been poor. Players coming on the field are having absolutely no impact on the match.

I could go on forever, and sometimes I do feel like a broken record, but surely my opinions cannot be far off what the public is thinking and feeling.

The game against the All Blacks on the weekend was one of the worst Wallabies performances I’ve seen. It reminded me of the Test that the Wallabies played back in ’97 when they lost to the Boks by 66 points.

And they came off smiling after the game. They are a different breed and I just don’t get it.

So what we need to know is why the ARU (in their wisdom) have come up with the brilliant ‘four games deal’ and what does this mean: win 4 or win 2 or maybe win 1?

Who knows, but we would love to know.

And if we lose, who is in line to take over? Someone who the top brass can control or someone that can really coach, bringing back the running game, attack and basic skills to put us back on top again.

There are a few brilliant Aussie coaches I would confidently pick but they are tied up in contracts.

So what happens now?

The damage has already been done and it breaks my heart.

But I am not on the ARU board. Maybe it’s time for a coup.
