Pakistan vs Australia Third T20: Live score updates, commentary

By Suneer Chowdhary / Roar Guru

It is a fight to avoid a clean sweep for Australia when they take on Pakistan in the final T20I at Dubai tonight and you can join us at 2.00 am Australia time September 1 for live score updates.

While Pakistan enjoy an unbeatable 2-0 lead going into this third match, both teams will undoubtedly be looking for more competitive action in the final match to be played on Monday in the lead-up to World T20 2012.

Australia will be hoping for a win ahead of the ICC World T20 after conceding the series in front of a jam-packed crowd on Friday.

The match on Friday was undoubtedly one of the best advertisements for the shortest format of the game.

After several twists and turns, the teams still ended tied on the last ball before a Super Over decided the winner, again off the final delivery.

It was a result that would have pleased Mohammad Hafeez and Dav Whatmore and they will hope that the side can maintain the same intensity in this third match.

A few changes, however, are likely in the Pakistan line-up for the final match as they look to test certain players before the World T20.

Shahid Afridi might still not be risked risked after recovering from his thumb injury while Saeed Ajmal has been termed available following a shoulder injury that forced him off the field in the penultimate over.

Australia find themselves in a place they are not used to being. The defeat on Friday saw them slip to tenth on the ICC T20 rankings as their rating fell even below Ireland’s.

George Bailey, who became the fourth Australia player to lose a T20 international on his birthday, still remained optimistic about the team and suggested that there were plenty of positives to draw from that defeat.

Australia batted much better than they did in the first game, especially the under the pressure of a tough chase and lost only by a whisker. The performance should provide some portion of confidence back to the batsmen.

The batsmen for most part did a reasonable job of staying put with the target but were troubled by Ajmal and that is one area that they need to address swiftly.

Australia have announced a 12-man squad for the game and Glenn Maxwell has a chance to replace Cameron White in the starting line-up. The rest of them should remain the same.

This has been abysmal from Pakistan. They did not turn up at all, with bat or ball. Still they have won the series 2-1. Australia did everything right tonight, from batting to bowling and fielding. Watson and Warner smacked the opposition out while Starc and Cummins shared eight wickets. So that's it from me, end of the T20I series with the two teams now to feature in the World T20 that starts in Sri Lanka from September 18. Hope to see you soon!

OUT! Bowled him, Starc's bowled Ajmal from round the stumps. Was shaping in and beat the bat to flatten the stumps. End of a sorrowful innings for Pakistan. 74 all out.

A small observation, when Maxwell had bowled 3.5 overs, four of the Australian bowlers had analysis with 11 runs in the conceded section. 2/11, 3/11, 1/11 and 1/11 for Starc, Cummins, Hogg and Maxwell respectively.

Four off that over. 9/64 in 17. Can Pakistan get more than their lowest ever T20I score of 89? Sounds difficult.

OUT! Cummins has his third, slower ball and shorter too and Razzaq went for the cut. The ball wasn't coming on and it did not go too far. The short third-man fielder gets a simple one moving back. 9/64 in 16.3

Hogg ends with 1/11 from four, pushing him to the number one spot in the list of 'most economical spells' by Australians in T20I cricket.

OUT! Run-outs have an entry. Cut to short third-man, Gul wanted the single but by the time he had gotten to the crease, the stumps were dislodged. Eight down for 60.

Razzaq shows his intent. Yes he does. Down the track, smack and down the ground to the straightish long-off for a single. Nine off 23 for him.

Only one from the Hogg over. What's more, the batsmen failed to read almost all of his six deliveries that over. 7/57 in 15.

OUT! Arafat was trying to tap Hogg over to the leg side but the dink went straight up in the air and behind the keeper. Cameron White was in the slips and he takes an easy catch. 7/56 in 14.1. Can we have Saeed Ajmal batting please? Will be interesting to see how he goes with the Aussies on the field.

Watson comes back to bowl his third spell. Also his third over.

Right, so Razzaq gets a single after some time, six off 18 for him. 6/51 in 13.

Arafat does look like he is a tailender alright. Or a lower-order batsman who hasn't faced quality bowling in ages. Maiden followed up by three dot balls. And then he shocks me. Winds up his bat and smacks it over mid-wicket for a six! What! 6/46 in 12.

Spinning away and into the batsman, and doing it at will is Brad Hogg. Results in six dots ball at Yasir Arafat. Still 6/38 in 11.

Many of the fans leaving the ground. I empathise with them. It has been a pathetic batting show.

OUT! Probably not as slow a death as I thought. Short ball, did not come on to the bat and Jamshed pokes at it. Spoons up gently in the air and the short cover fielder pouches a simple one. Maxwell gets his first T20I wicket. 6/36 in the 10th

A four, a single and four dot balls. Slow and a painful death this. 5/34 in 9.
