Anderson new referees' boss: report

By News / Wire

Former Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson is set to be appointed the high-performance director of refereeing for the NRL.

News Limited has reported that Anderson will take up the position for three years with the appointment to be made official later this week.

The new refereeing structure approved by the Australian Rugby League Commission is expected to see veteran referee Tony Archer retire to become one of two full-time coaches.

The other coach is tipped to be Englishman Russell Smith, who has been in an acting role since the sackings of Bill Harrigan and Stuart Raper last month.

Harrigan and Raper were axed after a tumultuous year in the refereeing ranks in the NRL and representative rugby league with a number of controversial decisions including the try awarded to Queensland’s Greg Inglis in State of Origin I.

All we need now is for Channel 9 to make some long-overdue changes to their commentary team. With Ray Warren nearing the end of his career, Nine should bring back Andrew Voss as the no.1 caller. If not, then get in touch and see if Graeme Hughes wants the job. Phil Gould should go as well.

I have faith as well, at least he can see what we all can see. I still can not believe we had 2 blokes who could not see past their nose running the refs. These guys were blind, and consistantly blind. We were all screaming at the TV, seems they were a little deaf as well. :) And, And Eagle dont forget, it was Hollywoods idea to put a second guy in the Box, he wanted 3 at one stage to fix the problem, yes 3. That was how he was going to fix it, do a best out of 3 play. (with 2 he was coming up with a 50/50 call, so he had to do papers sissors rock. So he thought having 3 it would be best outta 3 wins, you have to laugh. Man, can you believe what we had to put up with these 2 dummies running the video refs. Madness. Haha.

This will be a great move by the ARLC if true. Anderson is a great analyst of the game. Extremely knowledgable and has the best interests of the game at heart. With him in charge we might see the end of the obstruction farce. During the Manly v Cowboys game this year Anderson tweeted: "Just watched Glenn Hall literally dive across Anthony Watmough to milk a no try decision. Oh dear. What replays of what game do the refs watch?" Nobody knows Daniel. But I have faith you'll get it fixed.
