Adelaide itching for redemption against Brisbane Roar

While Christmas couldn’t come quick enough for most, Boxing Day can’t come soon enough for Adelaide United.

The A-League club is itching for Wednesday night’s home fixture against Brisbane Roar, hoping to put to rest their woeful 6-1 loss to Western Sydney last Friday night.

“The boys are just wanting to play this game against Brisbane as soon as possible,” Reds captain Eugene Galekovic said.

“Obviously we were disappointed with the (Western Sydney) result and on the training track this week was quite fiery and the boys were willing to throw their bodies around.

“We just can’t wait for Wednesday night.”

Adelaide had let in just 10 goals in 11 games prior to the Wanderers loss, with Galekovic uncertain why they copped six to the league newcomers.

“It was one of those games where everything went wrong for us,” he said.

“We know we’re better than that and we have just got to prove it against Brisbane and improve a lot to be honest.

“You have got to show some respect to Western Sydney, they are a very good team, very organised team, and we just didn’t know how to break them down and how to keep the ball.”

Brisbane coach Mike Mulvey was also surprised by the Reds’ heavy loss.

“If they would have lost 2-1, 3-1, then people would have said ‘oh ok’ but 6-1 and everyone’s taking notice of that,” Mulvey said.

“It was out of character and I don’t expect there will be any problems with them backing up in terms of being at home in front of a parochial crowd.”

The Roar have their own problems with seven losses in 12 games in an off-key championship defence.

“I have got great belief in the playing staff here and as I’ve said before we’re just one or two degrees off,” Mulvey said.

“The key is to get the first goal of the game and bring a bit of confidence back in the team and the slick passing will come back.”

Galekovic was wary of Brisbane, describing the Roar was “very dangerous”.

“Brisbane is a very good team,” Galekovic said.

“They’re struggling at the moment in terms of results but football-wise they’re still a quality team.”

Don't you ever get tired of being so predictable? I even told you what you would say and you still said it. Like a stuck CD, you just go on and on, pointlessly. There really is only room for one idea in your head, isn't there?

Roar dominated the entire game. A fair result would have been 0-3

I'd be stoked if we got 10k...unfortunately I can see us getting around 9500 for a variety of reasons....people away on holidays, not willing to leave the house during family time..any number of BS reasons I guess. Our season average so far is 9700 ish. no reason to expect bigger than that. The NYE game hosting ADP & SFCon the other hand is already down to single ticket availability...should see a 16,500 sell out that night.

Gee christmas cheer all round. If roar get it together in attack we'll be fine. Sydney well they are still pretty limited. As for brisbane support well its never been rusted on this was obvious even over the last two years when we were winning most of our games....I dont think its ever been claimed to be otherwise. But on the upside most crowds at home this year have been pretty steady and we've been losing and playing poorly.

Still banging on the from the Roar hater armchair I see, QASF. Cue torrent of abuse about disloyalty, travel distance etc etc blah blah blah... Don't bother - it won't be anything you haven't posted already 800 times. However, good to see you so full of Christmas spirit.

Adelaide United is a very confidence-based team. It is very interesting to see how they respond after a thrashing against the Wanderers last week. This is a dangerous game against a desperate team which has the potential to dent their title campaign.

Yes I said I wished Mike Mulvey was appointed the SFC manager---unfortunately he was ignored for that loser Farina, ex Roar coach.

I am sure Mulvey was looked at for SFC. And summarily ignored ; ) The Roar will recover, make no mistake. And Sydney will spiral into the abyss..yet again.

Roarsome .I'm heading down to Hindmarsh tonight and I had want to see some fire & resolve from my Reds during tonight's 90.. Some of the fihting spirit and backbone that was absent last Friday in Parramatta. Team news scuttlbutt indicates Kossie will resist the urge to make a raft of changes instead giving many of the team a chance to 'redeem' themselves. Changes being mooted include Evan Kostopolous to be replaced by Jeronimo in the starting line up with Bruce Djite retaining his striking role. Quite what Ramsay has to do to earn a stating XI berth is unknown to me and a few of my fellow Reds fans. IMESHO we look a lot more dangerous moving forward wth Rambo charging down the left flank supported by Carrusca at LM and an overlapping Cassio at LB. We've never hosted a Boxing Day clash before so I can't even hazard a guess to the likely audience in attendance.....the 6-1 loss to WSW will have shaken off a couple of bandwagonners no doubt:(

The only person I feel sorry for in this encounter will be Mike Mulvey. A young promising manager who knows his business---finally gets his chance. However, it's with a team full of self pity, from the top to the bottom. Mike, if your team is on the end of a massacre it won't be your fault. The blame will be on those who showed incredible disrespect to your predecessor. Instead of thanking Ange for the two championships they turned on him with abuse and disrespect. If you do get hammered today Mike, watch the toilet paper thin Roar supporters hand in their memberships at the next home game.. But Mike, remember this, it won't be your fault---we old ex GCU supporters know you have the makings to be a legendary HAL manager. Too bad, your second A-league club is with the Roar. I only wish, it should've been with SFC.
