Red kev Perth has changed a lot in the past few years alone, its changed dramatically in the 8years ive lived here...your view of it as it is now comes across as quite ignorant or misinformed. You make it sound as if it were a bigger Darwin, in the next few years its hitting 2m people and with that growth has come many changes.

How long ago did you live here? The sustainment of the boom is driving a lot of the cultural side of things strongly. Credit it to eastern-states immigrants tired of being bored, if you will :)

No they can't dexx, Perth has fewer options (fewer football teams, no theatre and show culture). The significance of the Perth Cup is reminiscent of small town carnivals (Launceston in Tasmania has a similar cup day). I lived in Perth for 6 years, I am not speaking from ignorance, you can deny it all you want but isolation breeds tribalism and fiercer support.

People can do as they wish here lol. There are numerous things people can spend there hard earned on that doesn't change because Perth is isolated. The fact is bbl is popular here and often we only have one team in a comp which can evoke a greater passion for it, throw in the fact the team is made up of players from wa too helps. the Perth glory get quite low crowds compared to smaller cities like Adelaide whereas the wildcats get the biggest attendances in the nbl. That's because of a great new venue, entertaining games, location and a successful team. Not isolation or lack of other things to do. Melbourne in general supports its AFL teams in attendances far more than Sydney does for example, I've never heard lack of things to do in Melbourne as the reason, its the desire for its people to support their team.

It helps because there is so much less competition for where to spend your leisure time in Perth compared to over east. It isn't a bad thing, I really like Perth, just worth pointing out that judging BBL success by a Perth crowd distorts things.

I don't think the isolation helps the attendances - after all, its not like Melbournians or Sydney-siders particularly benefit in terms of attendance from being near other population centres. The current state of the economy helps. Personally I don't know how the hell we got 17,000+ to a 5pm midweek start.

It is partly because the WACA has a small capacity in my opinion. Perth has good crowds to events (it is so isolated which helps attendances) and doesn't suffer like the Sydney and Melbourne teams of playing in massive capacity grounds (17k crowd is a sold out WACA, the "sold out" Renegades match only had 13k).

Trying to figure out what was the crazier over though - that last over (obvious credentials) or that 12-ball over from a week or so ago.

Hell of a thing, that game. I will say this - however much people want to talk about the BBL being a joke and a hit and giggle, there was a lot of passion in the crowd. Was a tremendous roar at the end. They don't command the passion that the more pedigreed teams in Perth have, but there had a hunger in the stands for that win. Maybe the BBL does have a future - maybe its because it is a one-team state, so this was still viewed as Western Australia versus filthy-Victorians-in-greensheep-clothing. Don't know how the feelings go in Melbourne and Sydney with the twin teams. There was a plucky Stars fan near me, let off a huge cheer and a fist pump when the final ball went through to the keeper. Had his head in his hands when he saw the umpire's arm extend... so I guess it mattered to him, too.

Don't really think he found form. He found luck - compare his innings to that of Pomersbach. For the latter, the ball went where the batter wanted, and went with a desired power and precision. White was getting fluke boundaries going the complete opposite to where he intended to hit. In the second half of his innings he started to sort it out.

Just returned home from the game, what a great match. Nail biting stuff. Full house at the WACA created a great atmosphere. Go the Scorchers!!! Later Warnie!

Scorchers win!! some twists and turns before the final result tonight when it looked as if the Stars had the game firmly in their grasp but maybe the Scorchers read the weather and felt a revised D/L run chase was on the cards if batting second? Either way, great win for the Scorchers who now advance to the Big final back here, 5pm at the WACA on Saturday against the Brisbane Heat.

In the old days Gibbs would have dropped that one if you paid him enough.....
