Djokovic vs Wawrinka: Australian Open live scores, blog

By Alan / Roar Guru

Novak Djokovic will look to continue his dominant run at the 2013 Australian Open when he faces the dangerous Stanislas Wawrinka in the fourth round tonight. Join us for live scores and commentary from 9:00pm AEDT.

Both Djokovic and Wawrinka are yet to drop a set in the Australian Open thus far but it is the Serb that will be heavily favoured to progress to the quarter-finals tonight.

Djokovic has a dominant 11-2 winning record against Wawrinka and is also on a 17 match winning streak at the Australian Open.

The world no. 1 is in fine form and it will take Wawrinka’s best and then some, to end Djokovic’s campaign down under.

Prediction

Wawrinka possesses one of the best single handed backhand shots on the ATP tour and it will need to be used to great effect tonight.

Anything short from Djokovic must be put away by Wawrinka if he is any chance of sticking with the Serb.

Wawrinka may also opt to play his slice backhand consistently tonight, given that it is a shot that can draw several unforced errors from Djokovic’s racquet in tight moments.

If he can execute the preceding plays well, then Wawrinka has the potential to provide Djokovic with his toughest challenge in the tournament thus far.

Djokovic though remains several classes above Wawrinka and should be expected to progress in three tight sets.

Djokovic in straight sets.

Absolutely incredible match. I was going for Stanislas, but this was one of those matches where the result feels secondary to the ups and downs of the journey. Gee, the Aussie open turns out the good in everybody! What a match. What a match.

Well thanks to all who joined this coverage of one of the classic Australian Open matches. Wawrinka showed that if you play aggressive, you can match the top players on the planet. Djokovic at times looked second best in the fifth set as Wawrinka dictated terms with his forehand and backhand. Djokovic though held firm and produced some awesome offence and defence of his own to wrap this one up. Please join us next time on The Roar. Wawrinka 6 5 4 7 10 Djokovic 1 7 6 6 12

GAME SET AND MATCH DJOKOVIC - Djokovic with a crossscourt angled backhand winner defeat Wawrinka in another Australian Open classic that has lasted a tick over five hours. What a match between two players in terrific form tonight. Wawrinka produced career best tennis tonight and has won plenty of admirers with his aggressive performance, coming from two sets to one down to force a fifth set against the greatest player on the planet at the moment. Djokovic though held firm and once again produced his best when it counted to secure a place in the quarter-finals. What a match. Wawrinka 6 5 4 7 10 Djokovic 1 7 6 6 12

Djokovic with another match point as Wawrinka produces an unforced error. Can the Serb pull it off here? He has a look at a second serve but Wawrinka responds with a tremendous backhand shot down the line for the winner. That was clutch!!! Wawrinka 6 5 4 7 10 Djokovic 1 7 6 6 11
