Eight reasons to watch the next two weeks of UFC: part two

By Ronnie Liddle / Roar Rookie

Yesterday we went through the first part of my top eight reasons to watch UFC in the upcoming weeks. Here is the next instalment: reasons one to four.

4. Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche: UFC 157

I don’t see this fight as that exciting, it almost borders on predictable. The UFC don’t want their newly minted champion to lose in her first fight but it will be the first female UFC fight so there is some historic value here.

What garners my interest is the fight hype/promotion and if Ronda will look to finish with an armbar again or in another fashion. But that said, if Liz could pull an upset it would be better for this division overall.

3. Lyoto Machida vs. Dan Henderson: UFC 157

Both fighters are very good and very experienced in MMA. While I expect this fight to be good, it’s the implications of the result that excite me.

The winner will probably get then next title shot. The loser will be sent to the back of the queue. I see Machida as too elusive for Henderson and using his ranging to defeat Dan via decision. Dan will then be rematched with Shogun.

2. Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva: UFC 156

Overeem is big and he can fight. He’s got a great stand up game, is strong in the clinch and has a decent takedown defence.

Silva’s nickname is Bigfoot because… well he’s big.

While Silva is more well-rounded, his stand-up just isn’t good enough to last on his feet against Overeem.

Unless Silva can get Overeem on his back in the first round I don’t see him emerging victorious.

I see this fight going very similar to the Lesnar fight. Clinch, muscled to the cage, big left knee to the mid-section and Silva trying to hold what is left of his liver together as Overeem is awarded the win.

1. Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo: UFC 156

This fight will be fought at a frantic pace. They both are disciplined enough to stick to game plans but flexible enough to pounce on any opportunity.

This fight can and probably will go anywhere. While I don’t think Edgar can win he is a very tough fighter to put away. He has never been knocked out or submitted.

Aldo has all the tools and has been likened to Anderson Silva. This is for good reason as he’s made most opposition look foolish. Aldo will do what nobody else has and stop Edgar.

Roarers, any fights i missed?

some people dont like women in combat sports. nothing wrong with that. loads of people dont like it. you aint chauvinist in my opinion. reem vs bfoot will be interesting for more then just the fight. depending on how it goes we will either see him fight for the title or against JDS in my opinion.

Not too wrong here RL! even the last few weeks have been awesome, Bisping v Belfort, Rampage v Texeiras, Dodson v Johnson, SHOWTIME!!! beating down Cerrone! woohoooo! The thing about MMA is that the lines are so defined between the good figthers and the great figthers and no matter how many times the "elite" fight you'll always get a good fight! Edgar/Aldo has the potential to be HUUUUGE! Big"fo nuttin"FOOT v the Reem will be a let down, dont see BF'n being anything but cannon fodder for the Reem and like most fans we want to see The reem v CV or The ReeM vs Cigano or even fatal 3 way! (joking) The dragon v Hendo will be a change for Hendo seeing as his last few fights have been FOY/slugfests whereas Lyoto is more clinical Rousey v Camouche, I will go out on limb and say I have no interest in watching this fight. Its my view and I am entitled to it but does nothing for me to watch 2 women fighting even at this level. chauvinist? maybe in this area

cheers mate. yeah i think the key will be if aldo can establish his range - like he did against faber. personally i think edgar is a little quicker then faber so aldo's legs kicks might get countered. either way, iits going to be brutal.

Great round up Ronnie. Aldo v Edgar has the sniff of a superfight about it, could make for a very interesting rivalry over the coming years if it is a close one. I feel like it is just going to be constant back and forth, the standup will be a kickboxing clinic.
