Has Mundine bitten off more than he can chew?

Daniel Geale’s fight against Anthony Mundine is shaping up as the biggest boxing match ever to take place in Australia. Most of the talking has come from one man, but has Mundine bitten off more than he can chew?

37-year-old Mundine is arguably past his athletic prime, but his trash talking continued at the final press-conference in Sydney, with Mundine again showing a lack of respect to Geale:

“He’s the same fighter he was when he fought me the first time. He’s got more experience and more confident but that’s not going to help when he’s in there with me.”

Mundine may have won a controversial split decision last time they fought, but if you look at their records since then, Geale has gone on to win two world titles in Germany.

But of course Mundine has an explanation as to why he is better than those former world champions:

“He’s fought [Sebastian] Sylvester and [Felix] Sturm, but they’re robots,” Mundine said. “They don’t have the speed on me.”

Robots who have held world titles for over seven years between them?

Since his first bout with Geale, Mundine has called out some of the best fighters, but is yet to back up the talk. He has a loss to Garth Wood, with Rigoberto Alvarez the most notable win on his record.

But nonetheless Mundine must back up all his trash talk on Wednesday night with a win over Geale, or he may as well hang up the gloves and cease the talk forever.
