You could hear it in Anthony Mundine’s voice at the pre-fight showdown with Daniel Geale. As Mundine fumbled his way through another tirade, this time with News Limited’s Paul Kent, you could hear the desperation.

Mundine is slowly slipping into history and he knows it.

Kent knew exactly what he was doing when he continued to probe the boxer. Mundine would do anything to sell a fight and it was evident here once again.

The journalist had his story and Mundine, ever the ‘showman’, kept himself in the headlines.

“I’m breaking records, doing what I done in sports, you know they gypped me in football, that’s why I left the game,” Mundine hissed.

“You had the [then-Australian] coach Chris Anderson coming out saying ‘We don’t pick him because of his off-field characteristics’.

“I left it at its height, and I was the highest paid player in the league at the time, money talks.”

He was pushed into a corner and then tried to fight his way out by disrespecting two of the greatest indigenous rugby league players we have ever seen.

Mundine, still believing a conspiracy kept him out of representative jumpers in his rugby league days, took aim at Laurie Daley and the Immortal Arthur Beetson.

“How was he [Daley] Aboriginal? He didn’t claim to be Aboriginal, he was like this fella [Geale]. He never claimed to be Koori.”

The ageing boxer then implied the deceased Beetson was an “Uncle Tom”, before backing down when Kent asked, “Did you say Arthur Beetson was an Uncle Tom or not?”

Enough is enough.

Anthony Mundine you weren’t worthy of Australian jumpers or more State of Origin jumpers because you weren’t good enough. It is pretty simple.

You weren’t Kevin Walters, you weren’t Laurie Daley and you weren’t Brad Fittler.

You weren’t even Trent Barrett.

Paul Kent got you in a corner and you did the only thing you know how to do. You cried foul and disrespected people.

You took aim at your own people. The same people you say love him and respect you.

You took a shot at Arthur Beetson, a man who isn’t here to defend himself or fire back.

The point is quite simple. Mundine was an average footballer, an above average boxer and a champion salesman.

Hopefully tonight is the last we see of him.

Anyone with any respect for rugby league and what men like Arthur Beetson did for our game will be hoping Geale puts Mundine down for good.
